Deer season is over and I'm already bumbed. Just beginning to dream. Have there been any kind of half organized handgun hunts out west with people from there and people like me that feel like it might as well be in Africa?

Thinking of people familiar with some of the vast public areas wanting to get together with other handgunners.

Many of the state's applications need to be in fairly early so now's as good a time to dream as any.

What ya think?

Gregg Richter has been organizing an annual pronghorn antelope hunt on the Durham Ranch near Wright Wyoming for members of Handgun Hunters International for 22 years. It's an excellent unguided free range hunt, and as economical as one should expect. If you're not already an HHI member, you should be.

Nebraska has a late doe season that runs from January 1-15 in about every part of the state. Tags can be purchased over the internet without applying. This year most permits offered a bonus doe tag. I still have two does left to shoot.

I'll be hunting eastern Nebraska with my 357 Herrett during that time. Hope to get my first handgun kill.

Like 500WE said, the HHI antelope hunt would be a great first western hunt. Its very affordable and Wyoming usually allows you to purchase several tags. They have some of the most non-resident friendly antelope hunting of any western state. Here is an article from their '02 hunt.

I tried to do that one year, a Handgun Hunt Antelope hunt, but Gary said we couldn't use the name for legal reasons and it kinda fell apart after that.

I handgun hunt for Antelope, Deer and Elk. But I have to find a new spot, because the area I use to hunt they put up a bunch of windmills and closed off the whold area!

Hey SS...I'll be in WY this fall hunting antelope. If all goes well, my partner and I plan on making it an every (or every other) year trip. Maybe your area next time??
