I really like the 180gr NBT for my .338JDJ#2 at around 2500fps. Since you wouldbe pushing them faster I'm not sure what they would be...I know at 2500fps they are a bomb on deer!! I'd try something in the 200gr area for the 338-06.

lookin forward to hearing your 338-06 info. please post it as you find loads etc. i've been thinking about a .338-06 barrel for my encore handgun.
while browsing the mail order house catalogs(do it all the time) i had my eyeball on the 200gr nosler balistic tip.

another possibility that i have been contemplating......a 338x444 from OTT(on target technologies)......only get it in encore configuration. only thing that bothers me with that option......i think ott only makes encore barrels in "full bull". might be a tad too heavy
whatcya think?

ahhhhh....it's good to dream...n talk about dreams ......as for now....i'm broke.... n thats all it is.

I'm using the 180g Nosler BT in my 15" 338WM. It zips out at 2840fps. I've only taken one deer so far with it but it performed admirably. That was a small buck at 25-30yds. The exit hole was golf ball sized. Hopefully I'll add a few more this season. I've also taken several deer using the 200g Hornady Sp. They also worked quite well. Good luck on whichever way you go and do keep us informed.

dad finally got the barrel cut off and got to shoot it today.didnt shoot to bad was using 180gr bt.ready for deer season. was shooting laying on the grond with bypod. so some day i may be able to check accuracy and velocity. i thing i did noticeis the barrel is a a&b from midway. and after cutting and crowning the barrel you could tell the bore isnt centered in the barrel i think from way it was shooting it will still do 1 moa but wont no till later. o ya there wasnt much recoil i was sapprised. i do think encore would kick more with the rear grip. jason

Being off this week to heal up from a surgery last Thurs., as soon as it gets light and the rain lets up I'm headed to the range with my new 15 1/2" SSK Encore barrel chambered in 338-06 JDJ.

The two bullets I picked to try were the Hornady 225gr SST and the Hornady 200gr SP, I'll be shooting the five 200gr SP pet loads this morning over 58.5grs to 60.5grs of Varget.
