Hello all,
I just purchased a Jack Weigand scope mount for my Taurus 425. I intend to mount a red dot on top. This scope mount is 4.5 inchs long, attaches to the rear sight screw, and requires the drilling and tapping of two additional (6-40) holes. What is a reasonable price I should expect to pay to have a local gunsmith perform this operation? Thanks.

it can vary quite a bit but I'd say anywhere from 30.00 to 50.00

Do you have access to any tools, such as a drill press? It is really a simple process to DIY.

Rod, too.

Wap's right on. Shops charge between $15 & $30 a hole. If you haven't done it before, I strongly suggest letting a gunshop do it. I've fixed many a would be home gunsmith's off centered drill and tap job, and turned many away that were too far off center. Fixing it right involves boring out with a milling machine to a larger diameter, both the firearm and the base. Revolvers don't have a lot of meat to spare on the top strap.

I recently took him a M98 action that he had previously prepped w/a Leupold base and done the bolt handle. He installed a A&B barrel and milled the stock's barrel channel (it was loaded by Accraglas from the prior barrel being FL bedded). But to install the barrel he had to cut the action threads (they were undersize) AND barrel threads (they were oversize) along with practically chambering the barrel since the "short chamber" was REALLY short! He charged my $80.

He once did another action w/ a military step barrel...on a Sunday afternoon, while I was there, had to do a little sqaring on the shoulder and screwed it all together...charged me $25.

BTW...cut and crown...$15.
