best 3 shot group ever shot in the history of KYODE!

the man: KYODE

the gun: 14" G2 contender, 30-30 Ackley Improved, 2x7 burris ler scope, in 3 ring redfield mount.

the bullet: 125gr sierra sp

the load: 37.5gr IMR4350 as a forming load in win. once fired 30-30 brass.

the 3 shot group@100: .242"!!!!! measured outside edge to outside edge, and subtract bullet diameter.
one small oblong hole

highly inefficient load....but deadly accurate for target practice, and forming cases.

i had my good points and bad points today. after shooting that group, i proceeded to royally screw up my 100 yard postal match target.... with the same load
can't make out the target center on those targets with 7x.

i also shot a .675" 3 shot group with the 6br...+ a couple .8-.9"
the .243 turned out a couple .84-85" 3 shot

i feel much better shootin 3 shot groups.....i screw up less

1 1/2" kinnda discourages me........1" makes me happy......3/4" tickles me.......1/2" makes me grin n go "wow"......1/4" makes me wonder how i got that lucky.

Fantastic shooting Kyle !!

If I keep on reading about you fellas and your 30-30AI's I may just have to get one.......see what you, Larry and Shortgun have gone and done ?

I ain't even shot my 15" 300 Savage Encore barrel yet, am still playing with my 6.5 Swede, and now I'm pondering a 30-30AI.......you fellas are kill'in me.

All kidding around aside, has anyone ever really ran a plain ole 30-30 Winch. 14 or 15" barrel through it's paces to see how much different down range it is compared to the AI ?

I guess what I'm asking is, compared side by side how much velocity and accuracy do you really gain in the AI version vs the plain 30-30 ?

3 shot group? You mean you gave up before 5 shots? C'mon man. No guts, no glory.

ahhhh, i'm learnin to hate 5 shot groups. waste a bunch of ammo, just to proove to myself that it's really hard for the shooter to remain consistent for 5.....even if the load is a good one.
maybe 5 shots early in load developement, but when i'm gettin close, or just playin around....3's good enuff for me.

what really impresses me, is that .242" group came from a factory deer class barrel.....not a custom varmint class barrel. kinnda unexpected, i reckon.

wonder how long it'll be before i shoot another group like that though.

I used to have a 6.5 JDJ that would shoot 4 shot one hole groups but never a five shot one. Would drive me bonkers. But I ain't as smart as you - I still always shoot 5 shot groups (if not 10).

Hey Rob, how goes moose season so far, & what gun & load are you packing?
I haven't been out a lot down here(Kenai), but so far I've only seen one "in between" bull.

Hey Vance,
You don't want to know. My work kept me from a planned caribou and dall sheep hunt (had drawn the caribou tag on the Kenai). Tomorrow I leave for 9 days to visit a relative outside who has terminal cancer, which about finished off any hope of rescheduling that hunt. Hope to make it out for a week or so for moose in early October down by Cordova, but even that is kind of shaky because of work.
I drew a fall brown bear tag on Kodiak so that is what I am going to try to focus on (but the way things are going, I almost hate to make plans).
The brown bear will be with my .45-70 (or maybe .375 JDJ), if I can get a chance at one that is. The fall season on Kodiak at the time I will be going (late Nov) is not the best for bears. The big guys are usually hiding out somewhere; and the smaller ones are denned. Will just have to see how it goes. Kind of looking forward to getting a nice Sitka blacktail buck or two or three. And I can go out in Dec in the Sound over a weekend to get a couple more if the weather will cooperate.

So that is my plan.

Hope you find bullwinkel. Biggest moose I ever saw on the Kenai was in the headlights of my truck at 5:00 a.m. on opening day of season on Oilwell Road the first time I ever went moose hunting. Had to just watch him walk off, though it was tempting to do otherwise.

I hope the rest of your season is better Rob. Shame on the Kenai caribou. Keep us posted.

David,

I can't speak for Chris but my 6.5 Swede barrel looks like it's a keeper......11 rounds at .913.

Take a look at my post on the barrel over at www.boartuffoutdoors.com

I know this isn't up with you Kyode but Friday I shot a 5 shot group at 100 yards offhand and they went 8.19" with 4 of them in 6.5 " with 750 gr Hornady A-max's at 1320 fps.
I hope I will be able to do as well as you someday.
You and Vance are my idols. It use to be Elmer Keith but I have recently put him on the shelf and have now switched over to you guys.
Thanks for the inspiration.

that is my goal in life...to be meplats inspiration !i guess i need to keep trying (guess he never read my post about killing a doe at 240 yards or the turkey at 200 yards with my encore)i plan on getting one with my 45 blackhawk quick draw style this year"from the hip ya' know "i personally enjoy reading KYODE and vances posts, kyode is always into something and vance being in alaska and hunting with a handgun is cool !some day i want to hunt alaska and would like to do so with a handgun.
why are you so hostile?you patterned your shotgun with no choke at 50 or so yards then accidently posted it for a handgun target,we understand ...but you dont have to hate on everyone, try being nice for a change.we all visit this place for fun and learning.(are you the kid i heard about when i was little....you know the one that had a pork chop tied around his neck to get the dog to play with him! , , , ).
vance, kyode one day i hope to join the ranks with you guys...(this post may just get me there )jim257

JIM257: Who is hostile? I have nothing against those guys.
I don't even own a shotgun.
Why would you aasume I don't consider your feat of killing those animals etc. with your encore an inspiration? I am sure you can outshoot me anyday.
If it will make you feel better I will include you in the Elite Idols section.

howdy meplat. i'm honored to be "the idol". i think it's hard for people to read thru typed letters, and see what is actually meant.
i didn't think you were cutting on me, but i imagine it could be taken that way though. we are all BIG buddies here, and kinnda watchin each others back i guess.

hey.....i know the .242" group was not up to "your standards" either. i was just kinnda proud, since it was the best group i've ever shot in my life.

....and hey.....that IS "up with me" meplat. thats some fine offhand shooting. i just really never shoot offhand, then measure. don't know why not
....are you saying thats what we should be doing instead of measuring groups from the bench?.......maybe it ain't a bad idea.
the other day at the range....i shot from sitting on the ground, with my elbows on my knees. i was shooting at a rabbit target to get a little practice in. but......it's not exactly interesting for me to post on here that i killed a few fake rabbits at 100 yards. ....heck i don't know.....maybe it is, hehehe.

thats good shootin meplat. maybe we all should shoot offhand and measure group sizes.............. ......well would ya let me use my sling for support? thats my main shooting aid in the deer woods.

Klye, when the heck are you going to get a digital camera? Why don't you mail the target to me and I will make some photos and post them for you?
