Dan's post on the 357 load got me thinking about the last time I took one of my 357's hunting.

I have to be honest my 357's do not get near as much love as the 44's and 45's

I need to start shooting them more and may need to start working on some heavy deer/hog loads and some ultra lite varmit loads.

Where does your 357 do its best work??

If it jams force it! If it breaks it needed replacing anyway.

My old 3 screw Ruger will digest just about anything I feed it, I have loads from 125 to 180 and they are all max loads of H110. I just got a box of 187gr Cast Performance bullets to play with. I'll never use it as a primary hunting weapon but my wife carries it sometimes when we're hunting and with the number of cats and bears we have out here I like her having a short barreled back up.

My GP100 pretty much just sits on top of my skivvies in the top drawer of the nightstand. Hmmm, gotta do something about that soon. Fun to shoot, just so many other things anymore.

Rod, too.

I use the heck out of mine. I take it prarrie dog hunting in wyo, it also rides on my hip on all my big game hunts. I practice with it more than any other gun period. Its fun and cheap to shoot compaired to my other guns. Heck I even try to kill p-dogs with it and have done so. the 357 will alway's be useful to me.

Security Six worked over by Teddy Jacobson (Actions By T). It'll shoot anything well. I've got a bug to add better sights & take a deer w/it. I carry it in a Milt Sparks rig for 2 legged protection & in a strong sided Austin from El Paso for woods walkin.

Years ago when I toyed with the idea of handgun hunting I carried a 357.I wrote to Hal Swigget, and talked with him on the phone. He said the 357 would do the job within its range,he said 50 yards, but the 44 and 45 will do it better and a little farther. He said in his opinion the 41 was a minimum for deer sized game.Since that conversation some 12 or 13 years ago I haven't had one.I like them, maybe I should get another one.

In Wyoming it is illegal to hunt big game with a .357 (Minimum caliber .357 max). As a matter of fact, you can't even dispatch a wounded big game with it. For that reason, I don't carry one anymore. I carry the trusty S&W Model 29 in the field with me.

Thats what surprises me about Oregon, they have a very lenient definition on what is legal, for deer, bear, antelope and the like it's any .22 cal centerefire handgun, and for elk and bighorns it's a .24 cal centerfire.

Hmmm, 22 Hornet for bear and 6mm T/CU for elk. I'm all set ;-)

I don't think you sold a 7.5" SS redhawk in 357 Mag...or did you.

I bought a 640 centenial years ago for self protection. I like to shoot it because I don't have to pick up brass but would I hunt with it, no. I thought about getting a ccw license to carry it but the people I talked to that already have one say don't bother. I can't carry it anywhere anyway. The law is a joke.

My 357 is like my AMERICAN EXPRESS!I DON'T LEAVE HOME WITHOUT IT.I carry a 2" snubby under my shirt anytime I'm out.I don't know why but I always feel better with a revolver than a small 9 or 380.40'S and 45's are too bulky.sooo I love my mag with 158gr XTP'S..it works for me.I never had reason to carry a 357 hunting,I like my 375,45-70,450 marlin and 500 S&W.
