What would be the best barrel to start out an eleven year old girl on? She has some experiance with the 45/410 barrel but it is fixed sights with a rib and we want a scope. She has set a goal to take her deer with a handgun this year. So what is a good cal light recoil barrel for her? She is not timid and has plenty of experiance with her rifles. I am thinking of the 7mm TCU.

The T/CU's are an option for sure. Perhaps the 300 Whisper or 300/223. Recoil is manageable and range is all of 100 yards. If shooting closer how about a 12" .357 Mag, easy shooting and enough gun to 50 yards or a tad more with the longer barrel and closed breech. Heck, 50 yards is a long way for a new young handgunner.
Rod, too.
Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

There's also the 6.8SPC. It's a light recoiler and good to 150yds or so.
It's not the gun, but the man behind it.

7mm TCU is a good choice... so is the 7-30 Waters. And as S4S4U has already stated, limet your distance.

Most shots she would get are inside of 100 yds and her blinds have a bench rest type front window on them that should help. I will be sitting with her as thats the only way mom lets her go.

The 7mm tcu gets my vote as well. I put one together for my elderly dad he was recoil senstive too. It worked out great.

For some reason I had no doubts in my mind to the contrary. Good form!

you can take the vent rib off and by a 10 dollar scope mount that will screw right into the factory holes.the 45 long colt is very accurate and deadly out to 70 yards or more. i just got another weaver monut at cabelas and now have 2.much cheaper than a barrel

I had not thought about removing the rib, thanks. The .45 shoots good for having the fixed rear with a bead on front. I might have to see about a scope for it. I will still get the barrel while I have the excuse.

My daughter is eleven and she shoots a 14" 7 TCU with no problem. I got her shooting early and she really likes it. First gun at 8 years old was a Contender in 22LR.

7mm TCU with a Hornady 120 grain V-Max would be an excellent choice for your daughter. The 120 V-max is actually the old 120 grain SSPB (Single shot pistol bullet)designed for the 7mm TCU and 7-30 Waters.
A 12" to 14" Contender barrel would help with the recoil. A 2x scope might be a benefit also.

That's nice, you got some sweet memories!
If she has no problem shooting the .410 any of these discussed shouldn't be a problem.
As far a scoping a 45/410 for shooting 45's, I tried that. Got about a 5" group @ 50 yards, better to get a real 45LC barrel for doing that.
Rod, too.

My son is 11yrs old and I plan on letting him deer hunt the next season with a handgun. I have a 14" SS 30-30 win barrel for a 'Tender that I'm planning on sending to mag-na-port to have ported then work up some loads with 125 NBT's...I think this will be a good starter...when he gets older, I'll have it rechambered to 30 GNR...KRal

Here there is no age limit on hunting with a handgun, just purchasing one. They only have to be accompanied by a licensed hunter.

Kids can hunt in Mo youth season with adult as early as seven on public lands. There is no age limit on private land. She cannot purchase long guns until 18, handguns is 21. All of her guns are in my name. I do not think there is a special rule for handgun hunting. She is hunter certified and could hunt on her own in any Mo. season but I choose to hunt with her for safety as well as the experiance and time I spend with her. Around here we call each other by our first name and every one knows every one so I can't see it being a big deal either way. Thank you,
Shawn

I like the 7-30, it has no recoil and my kids love it my youngest boy shot one the first time when he was about 8 and had no problems.
In Oregon there used to be a min age of 12 to hunt and still is to get their own tag but they started something called the youth mentor program and a child 8 or older can hunt as long as they are accompanied by an adult and they have to punch the adults tag.

The 300 Whisper would get my vote for a wildcat cartridge. I spoke with JD at SHOT and he has a supply of brass headstamped in 300 Whisper.
