Was looking at some 357 Mag. JHP +P. What does the +P stand for?

They are high pressure loads. Check with the ammo manufacturer since sometimes these loads are only recommended for use in certain models of guns.

I have been shooting them out of the Trooper. They seemed to be fine with a little punch. Just was trying to find out some load info on them. I got these for free. Came from a Gunshow and "Deer Stopper" is on there package. I see they are a Gold Dot bullet. I think I am just going to stick with the XTP. I am not trying to hot load anything!!

The trooper is probably rated for the +P but you may want to find out for sure before you shoot any more of them so you don't damage your gun

Thanks Rod! The Colt has a pretty stout frame and barrel, but I am checking to be sure. Going to start from scratch until I find out some more. Got some new brass on the way with some 158gr. XTP. Thinking about 15. of H110. Any thoughts?

you don't just arbitrarily select a load to go with, especially if it is a max listing. you work up in increments and see which powder/bullet/charge is the most accurate in your gun.

you made me go look
....and you are correct.

15.0gr is a starting charge and max is listed at 16.7 with the 158. so....load at 15.0, 15.5, 16.0....n maybe 16.5....n see what load is the most accurate, or if there is a preference.

Thanks for your concern Kyode. I am very cautious about loading the bullets. I guess I should have just started this post out asking what people thought of the H110 with 158 XTP for 357 Mag. I was trying to compare it to what I had already shot. On the "Deer Stopper" package it was saying Velocity of 1475, H110 was starting out 1418. I haven't used H110 much except in the my 629. And I like it!!

Kyode is first rate… he also knows a thing or two about reloading. But the truth be told the reason he said something is because he truly cares. A lot of times we are overly cautious on the forum just because we don’t want to be misunderstood. Lets face it, I just mentioned that I was shooting hot loads (what I would consider max loads) and someone (in good form) was cautioning about not pushing a cartridge beyond its limits. What a great group of people as far as I am concerned!

TC, you are right on there! This site is loaded with a great bunch. Including Kyode!! It is good to have people to go the extra and make sure nobody is munking up their guns or fingers. I appreciate his comment and outlook on the situation. I am still a newbie at the reloading so I may catch myself with uncertainty driven by curiousity. Hell, until I got on Handgun Hunter, I had never even considered reloading. And now, well, I am a junky for it! Thanks guys!

I like to reload almost as much as shooting and hunting. And all the neat gadgets that you don't really need, and the different bullets, and powder and.......... sure is a great way to have fun.
