My old eyes are not what they used to be and I struggle with the open sights on my 22 autoloader handgun (Browning Challenger) when plinking, target practicing, hunting, etc. Lately, have been thinking of putting a scope or red dot on the Browning but it would require drilling/tapping,finding a custom base, etc.

I may just buy a new 22 autoloader that comes drilled and tapped and ready for scope mounts. The Ruger MK III 6 7/8" may be a good one.

Anyone have/shoot a scoped 22 pistol?

Dave

I've been shooting them since 1978, and presently have them on 2 FA's, a Ruger Single -Six, a Ruger Mk. II, and a Couple of T/C Contenders. I shot them for years in metallic silhouette matches, bullseye matches, and consider them far, far superior for small game hunting.

Red dots are really nice on a 22, because they don't really have any recoil, the target acquisition is much faster which can make it a lot of fun to shoot. Also a little easier on the eyes to me.

Oh yeah. On many formats. I had 3 T/C barrels that had scopes on them but recently sold a couple. I have a Red Dot on a 22/45 MkII Ruger and a S-Six Bisley. Like you say, it may be difficult to find a base for yours but the newer Rugers (bull barrel) are scope ready and even Browning has a Buckmark with a full length rail. For revolvers the Weigand base works well and uses the rear sight hole to mount. Even adding just fiber optic sights makes a world of difference, and they are available for most handguns. Optics are the cure for my old(er) eyes.

Rod, too.

Scoped 22`s,either pistol or revolver, are a real plus when your eye`s are losing power. At 58 I`ve noticed my focus ability is not what it was and a 2X scope helps to put my shots in the black.Try it....you will like it.....

Yup, have a Leupold scoped S&W K22, and 617, Leupold scoped TC Contender 22LR match, and a Bushnell Holo-sight on my Sig-Hamerrli competition. My Browning Buck mark is Iron sighted as is my H&R 999. I don't the scopes on my Smiths because I can't tell where the bullets hit on the 50ft small bore target. They all go into one stinking hole and I hate that!
I have a Leupold-Gilmore Red dot on my Charger.

I know this sounds silly but I don’t. I keep my short guns with irons and my long ones with scopes. I do have plans for a 22 LR for the TC with full intentions of scoping it.

I have a rifle scope on my Contender match .22 barrel but on my Ruger MK II, 678GC I use a red dot. Great solution on both pistols. Go ahead and get that Mark III.

You could always but a S&W 22a cheap. They have the base built in to the sight rail. More guns is always good. Mine shoots at least as well I can.

If you are going to hunt with it and are used to head shots get at least a 4x pistol scope.

I have several. My two faves are a 14" SSK .22LR w/ 7X Burris and a Striker 501 .22LR w/ 3-12x32 Burris. These are my two main practice guns that match up against my large caliber big game guns. The Striker has been seeing several hundred rounds per week from various LR shooting positions in preparation for a WY trip this fall.

I shot my K 22 on friday and tried some of the high $ Ely ammo. It it helped my groups at 50yds (Down below 1" now) but the POI was very different from the Remington Thunderbolts. (About 4" @ 50yds) I re-zeroed for the Ely and will try to find a low $ factory ammo that shoots close to the same POI.

I like the gun though it is great practice for the big guns.
