Ok forgive the question that has probably been answered several times, but im new to the contenders and just aquired a 7mm tcu and 44 mag. I reload my own but know very little about the 7 tcu. I know that the case starts as a 223 and resized. my question is: Is the resizing die that comes in the 2 die set the one i start with or is there a seperate die that needs purchased to get me started? Really looking forward to Shooting this new pistol this spring.
Thanks in advance for the info.

nemudd,

You start with the sizing die, if it has the tapered decapping rod ( depriming rod ). Most 7mm TCU die sets ( 2 die sets ) have the tapered rod; but, not all. It is quite easy to disassemble the die and check the rod. The die manufacturer can provide a tapered rod, if your set does not have one. Additionally, you should lube the inside of the case necks prior to resizing. A Q-tip with Redding resizing lube / wax works great. Also, use new brass. Fired brass has been worked and you will lose more cases. Remember, when sizing, slow, steady pressure works best. When fireforming the cases reduce loads 10-15% from max. I've made many cases that was and lost very few in the process.

Mudd,
Congrats in choosing the 7TCU!
That puppy has been the staple of every type of use from Steel Silhouette to 200 pound game animals.
The use of spent military brass to bulk will keep you in the pink for years to come!
My only suggesting using Mil brass is to break the primer pocket corner! That way new primers will not crush while being seated?
Make sure you chamfer and lube the case mouth and you're in!
Once fire-formed..depending on how much freebore there is, give about .050 distance from ogive to rifle leads and you'll nail shiny quarters!
For hunting.....120-139 anything hollow point and 154-175 blowing up rocks and steel.
