Can .45-70 Lever Action load data be used in the Encore or should Trapdoor data be used? I'm happy with Trapdoor loads in my Contender. I'm thinking about picking up an Encore rifle barrel now and there are a few bullets I would like to try that will not expand at Trapdoor velocities.

I would think the Encore would be at least as strong as the strongest lever action rifle. This would allow you to really stoke her up with the heavy lever action rifle loads.

Anything but Ruger #1 data… that is straight from "the horses mouth.”

You guys are right. I called TC this morning and they confirmed that the Encore will handle 1895 Marlin loads. I went ahead and ordered a 20" Katahdin .45-70 Pro Hunter barrel. I missed out when they introduced the Katahdin a few years back and I've been wanting one ever since. The TC tech also taught me how to pronounce Katahdin!

Actually the Encore can handle 40,000 CUP in the 45-70. As it handles the 470 Nitro which is larger in diameter and operates at 38,000 - 40,000 CUP. The 500 S&W has a larger base diameter and operates higher than 40,000 CUP...more like 50,000 CUP.

TCA is ultra conservative.
