How many of you have been scoped or wacked in the head with your handguns while you were out hunting?

once, a long time ago.
I knew it was going to happen, but it was the only way I could get steady enough for the shot.
It was a 2.5-7 Burris LER, and I was shooting in a weird prone position. Barrel had two-port Mag-Na-Port. Chambering was 284 Win. with 140 NBT's

Not yet (knock on wood!). I don't have any real big recoil rounds though so my luck may hold out. The biggest scoped kickers I have are a .308 Win Encore, a .45-70 Contender and a .454 Casull revolver, so nothing with real heavy recoil.

I had a Super 14 45-70 hit the bill of my baseball cap while sqeezing off a sight check round before a Elk hunt.
Wondering what this new .480 Ruger SR is going to feel like...............

Don't confuse shooting with hunting.

I have never been hit with a long eye relife scope on a handgun. I have been kissed lightly by a couple bolt pistols with rifle scopes. No damage just a reminder that I got a little too close or if I didn't have sufficent grip tension at the time I squeezed the trigger.

I did have my FA come back and hit my hat. It smarted but didn't draw any blood. The 270 encore is the only handgun that I've ever been scoped with. I was out shooting rabbits with a friend who was filming all the action. We spotted a rabbit sitting outside a PD hole. My buddy set up the camera on the tripod and I set up on crossed sticks and got my back against a sagebrush. I then proceeded to head shoot the rabbit. When the gun went off I got wacked in the nose by the scope. Blood was dripping off my nose. I told my buddy "I got it in the nose", he was glassing the rabbit and said "yeah your going to have to shoot him again"! I told him "not the rabbit me". He looked over at me and started laughing hilariously.

BTW I did have to shoot the rabbit again, guess I need a bigger gun!!! lol

Oh yes, right in the mouth with an Encore in 45-70. Left a pretty good mark!

I forgot to mention that mine was worth it.
I had a muley buck beyond 250 yards.
1 shot=1 Kill.
After I shot Steve took a second muley from the buck herd. Ended up pushing them to where the third guy in our group also took a buck from the group-Quite a successful day in the mountains.

I have tried to talk friends into shooting it for me but have had no luck. I have a messed up back and cant shoot it myself. Its the only gun I ever owned that concerned me safety wise.

P.S.-Anyone in the dfw Tx area want to shoot a very safe low recoiling 45/70 revolver with 2" barrel? I need a picture to hang on the wall to explain why I only use it for a paper weight.

I had the scope mount screws on my 475 shear and the scope hit me in the forehead but I have lost my grip twice once because of stupidity and once because of stupidity and snow. I shot my bfr in 45-70 one handed to clear a chamber because I was pissed off because I had just broke the hardwood grips I paid magnum research 90.00 for, that one laid me out and split my cheek. The other one was my 475, I had just bough new full fingered shooting gloves because at that time I was shooting outside all winter long and I went out in a mild snow storm not thinking ahead to the consequences of wet gloves and a handcannon and that one cost me a tooth. The second two were completely avoidable but goes to show how fast things happen with hard recoiling hand guns and how the smallest screw up can cost you. The only thing I can say in my defense was that was several years ago and since I've had no problems other than the screw failure but at that point and time the other two incidents happened I was running through about a 1000 rounds of big bore stuff a month easy. I would take out my two 475's and the bfr and shoot an easy 250rds in a day and I was going out 4 to 8 times a month. It is easy to become complacent when you are dealing with those kind of numbers, probably also has something to do with why they are going to fuse both wrists.
