With a sporter forend. This is a modular system where you can change out the forends and the grip assembly.

I want to know how many more number we can get in a cartridge name. I've often dreamed that the 6.5-284 case necked up to 7mm would be nice...I could call it the 7mmx6.5-284!
;\)

They will have to start making die boxes bigger just to fit the cartridge name on it!!

Gerry,
Isn't is amazing how different you can make a specialty pistol look by just changing its stock? Here is the very same rig, before I had the barrel shortened 2" that my son was using at Missoula's 1,000 yard match last March.

This particular set-up (3" wide forend) is made for BR shooting.
It will have a different grip with a bag-bar for tracking smoothly. When shooting different disciplines of comps even rifles will take a less than rifle look compared to standard hunting rifles.
I will typically use my SP's for hunting, varminting, field/tactical matches and some BR matches. This system allows the crossover to be easier.

I guess if we start with Lapua/Norma/Hornady 6.5-284 brass ans neck it up to 7mm we could easily call it that.

That isn't much different from the turn of the century when the cartridges had three numbers. Caliber/powder charge/bullet weight.

that is one cartridge that needs the long name. i see too many people shorten it to "6x47", when it is actually not, nor will ever be. it causes confusion with the ORIGINAL 6x47....which is made from the 222magnum case necked up. as short as you can go is "6x47 lapua"....thats the law.

kudos to ernie....n nice gun.

Well I am glad the Law has spoken.
But I do beg your mercy sir:
How about 6x47L ?
This is becoming a common way to distinguish it between the orginal 6x47.
But only if "The Law" allows it

sure....we can bend the law a tiny amount.
\:D
as long as the "L" is present to distinguish a definate difference.
section 7, article 9, paragraph A directly addresses this.

it ain't worth the jail time people!
\:\/
a "6x47" is made from the 222mag, and some extenuating circumstances allow the 204 ruger to be used.

the 6x47L would come from a 6.5x47 lapua

Ernie, do you build these up yourself or have a gunsmith do the work for you?

I am glad that the Almighty Potentate (or is that Potato Head?) has spoken

I didn't sleep well last night with uncertainty of whether the "L" would be allowed or if its "Proper Name" would be required.
If the truth be known I think the 6x47 case is just jealous as it is almost an all but forgotten cartridge in the BR & shooting world

Here is a pic from yesterday of my 6x47L XP with the McRee stock with the new NightForce NXS First Focal Plane 3.5x15 (MLR Reticle).
