This is the Vaquero that I've posted pics of as I've used it as a test piece for some of my work. The gun has been fit with a stainless 5 shot cylinder reamed to 454, the hammer and transfer bar are jeweled, the grip frame is a stock aluminum frame that I polished and radiused. The action is smooth as silk with the trigger pull coming in at just under 2lbs. I replaced the factory ejector housing with a steel unit. The barrel is the factory Colt barrel but has been turned down to remove the safety warning and the crown and forcing cone have been re cut to 11* and a new factory sight blade installed. The gun weighs in at 37.25oz compared to my 500 at 53.50oz and my 4 5/8" 475 which weighs 51.25oz. The recoil is extreme but this gun does have a purpose. I built it as my own version of the 329PD combined with the Ruger Alaskan in a single action platform. I like to fly fish mountain streams from time to time and this gun is perfect back up against bears and cats which thrive in my fishing areas and it's light enough to wear all day while wading streams. This gun I can honestly say is not for the faint of heart to shoot and I would never build one for someone else but then again there's a reason I've got enough titanium in me to build an X frame and I have more coming. I just can't seem to get my fill of big bore wheelguns. I also have another 500 on the block that I'm just waiting for my barrel blank on, this one will be a twin to the other except it will be scoped.

Sweet Rod. I can imagine it is a handful, those Vaqueros push pretty good with heavy 45LC so 454...... Hopefully you don't HAVE to shoot it too much ;-)

Rod, too.

Sweet! Probably a gun to carry a lot and shoot a little.

I like it very much Rod. Very smooth. Very light.

Must be very comfortable for carry...
And very comforting as well!

Nice looking gun! You do great work! That would be a good carry gun for trail riding, light but powerful.

don't know yet, the weather out here has been pretty miserable so as soon as I get a good day I'm going to play with it and see what I've got. I haven't even reloaded for it yet so I'm shooting factory Winchester 300gr fnsp, the local department store has them on clearance for 50% off.

I'm trying, I finally get to have my fingerprints taken tomorrow and then I can file the paper work. I'm just figuring with it being a government organization they will take their own sweet time on it, but like I said I may have a back up plan if it drags out to long or they give me any grief.

How will that lite frame hold up to the 454? I wondered before about this conversion, I like it big power in a small package.

that remains to be seen, Bowen does the 5 shot conversions but Reeder stopped because he had a couple of Vaquero frames crack. I don't plan on shooting this one alot so I don't expect any problems but I probably wouldn't build one for someone else just because of the greater possibility of frame failure.
