If you could have "Only One Good Shot" at the game animal of your dreams with ANY handgun, (EVEN IF YOU DON'T OWN IT), what would the animal be? And what cartridge/gun/sight/bullet? Any continent, any animal, any handgun/cartridge.
No-I don't mean your "last" shot ever.
Mine: Polar Bear, FA .500 WE, red dot sight, 420 gr. Hard Cast WFNGC.
Second choice (If allowed ha ha): Alaska Brown Bear, " " "

Mule Deer, Antelope, or Elk.
Any distances out to 500yds...longer after some schooling from Ernie. 7mm-270WSM XP-100. Burris 3-12x32 w/ BP. 162AM at 2750fps would do nicely.

World Record Typical Whitetail taken at 100 yards with my S&W PC .460 using Hornady Ammo. Then S&W, Burris, Hornady, Realtree and what ever companies products I used that day will throw all kinds of money my way to appear in ads and at outdoor shows so I never have to work again. Then I can travel around hunting all kinds of critters with handguns of course.

Some interesting hunts and guns for sure. Probably an African Safari with Steve. Specific handguns not required other than suitable for the game we hunt.

my first choice would be alskan moose. FA 454 or 500WE. under 50 yards(I could use some of that ernie scooling also).
Second choice would be elk.
Second choice for firearm would be the xp out to 200+(did I mention I need some LR schooling ).
Elephant would be cool also( did you say 1, or 1 dozen?)

Right now, I'll focus on my Alaskan Black Bear hunt coming up in May. 7+ footer, 35 yards, Super 14, 45-70 with a UltraDot. All captured on P.O.V.
Don't confuse shooting with hunting. Shooting is a game, hunting is a sport.

A 45 inch or better Cape buffalo with a Freedom Arms revolver. I would say the 500 WE but they're too hard (if not impossible) to get into many countries so I guess 454 Casull. I don't know if I'm brave enough (if that's the right word) to go a frontal assault on a big tusker.

World record typical whitetail (sound familiar) with my custom 475 revolver at about 30 yards or so. All caught on video. Then I could get all the endorsements plus maybe my own hunting show "handgun hunter tv" maybe??? If Gary didn't mind...LOL

I would be more than satisfied with a nice eating cow elk. My .45 blackhawk w/open sights at about 20-25 yards. Not very exciting but works for me.

1) 265 pound, 16 point typical (with zero deductions) whitetail (inside spread of 24 inches) at 25 yards, back in the Adirondacks during the first heavy snow storm of the season using a custom 9" SRH in .454 Casull topped with a Leupold FX-II with Hornady XTP-MAGs.
2) 1400 pound 11 foot Alaskan Brown Bear taken on the Kenai Peninsula at 50 yards off my BOG Pod at dusk with a S&W .460 PC 12" topped with a Busnell Elite 3200 2-6x32 with Barnes 275gr XPBs.

Ernie, I would love to come up and see how its really done one of these days. I should try to make it to the cold turkey shoot this year. Don't know if I could hit the 500 let alone the 1000 but it might be fun and a learning experience.

VERY COOL. Some great dramas unfolding here. And it gives us all an idea of where our 'brothers' interests are plus strengthens our bond even more with our common love of Handgun Hunting.
Keep 'em coming! The answer I like best will get a copy of my brand new hot off the computer Handgun Hunting CD.

Whitetail with my contender in 30-30 win at 200+ yards with my dad my brother and anyone else that said it can not be done with a handgun. Let it drop within 20 yards dead. That should quiet the ones that say you can not doit.
Hopeing to spend a box per week on the target range and do a lot of scouting all summer to see if i can make it happen.

I love to hunt anything that can be called in. My ideal hunt would be in Alaska for moose or black bear.(called in of course) I'd like to use my FA in 454 with a 300 gr cast bullet (mtn mould bullet) over a charge of H110

Ernie, maybe you need to start a LR shooting school couple times a year pick a date and a prairie dog field. I would sign up for that.

Ernie, maybe you need to start a LR shooting school couple times a year pick a date and a prairie dog field. I would sign up for that. A LR pd school would be a lot different than LR field shooting focusing on first shot connections-Both are a lot of fun. Steve, Marc and myself have done this in the past, but when push comes to shove (travel, money, and conflicting schedules) the numbers have been small. Although the guys we have met during these times has been great, it has been difficult to plan. I have worked with individuals though-It is easier to work around two schedules than 5-10 people.

I'm trying Pab, unfortunately the employment section of the paper you sent me was pretty sparse but I'm keeping my eye on things and I check the employment websites for her from time to time. Once this economy gets straightened out and there are more jobs around I'm sure we'll be on our way.

Marco Polo or Mtn. Nyala. As long as it's a handgun suitable for long range. We gotta have dreams. I want to go along with Mark while he takes this Mountain Nyala in Ethiopia, and the Marco Polo in Tadjikistan (hoping he pays the airfare and the daily rate for an observer) THEN, we'll hop over to Mongolia where I'll take an Altai Ibex at a couple hundred yards with an XP in .308.

I'd go with ya' to Africa buddy--that'd be fun.
For my own personal interests i'd like to kill any game animal between 300 and 500 yds. using reticle-rangefinding alone with one of my long-range XP's. I'd also like to compete in the Allegheny Sniper Challenge with SP's sometime--roving silhouette field course on tgts. of known dimension at unknown range, no lasers allowed.
