What are your thoughts on an economical scope for a SBHH in 44 Mag. I am looking for something 2x or 4x but funds are limited but dependability is important. Thoughts......

Also...what about a red dot sight....can it take 44 mag recoil?

find a used leupold in 2x or 4x is my first thought, and they show up pretty often in internet classifieds. i think danb likes the weaver in the same....not sure what they run new.
i think it will be pressing to do much better than the $150 neighborhood, but maybe with the weaver 2x??

I agree completely with KYODE, find the used Leupold if you can but if not then the Weaver is a good scope for the money and will easily handle the 44. The Bushnell trophy is a good economical red dot and the one I had stood up to at least 200-300 rounds through my 45-70 BFR before I replaced it with a 4X Leupold.

A person might be surprised what some "cheaper" scopes can handle. And, what some "quality" scopes can't. I have two older Tasco 1.25-4x scopes that sit on a 10" .357 Maximum and a 14" 45/70 Gov't (braked), prior to that on a 10" Waters, and have held up for about 12 years now. I had a Burris 2-7 give up on a 7-30 Waters. I've had a Simmons fixed 4x on a 41 Mag SBH Bisley Hunter, no sweat, prior to that it sat on a Hawkeye 50 cal ML pistol.

For a little more money I really like the Weaver scopes, and the Leupies are tough as nails but pretty pricey. A good compromise are the Bushnell Trophy 2-6x. One thing is certain, the eye relief varies greatly from one make/model to another and you have to keep that in mind. You can't hit what you can't see, and some scopes are too short or too long for certain applications.

A properly mounted cheap scope will out perform a poorly mounted expensive. Make sure it's mounted properly!!

The most economical scope is the one that doesn't break, leak, etc. As others suggested, seek out a used Leupold 2X or 4X for your .44 Mag. SBHH. I've also used a number 0f 1" Ultra Dots, on .44 Mags., but the 2X Leupold is probably a bit more versatile.
