I am pretty much settled on the 45 LC for my 09 deer gun(in Bisley Blackhawk)Calling the dealer this weekend
Im thinking of using a hard cast (270-300gr)
Been talking to Penn and cast performance about there bullets.
Anyone got any good load suggestions?
I know there are some that use the 45 LC on here (H20 bug etc)
What type of damage and stopping power are you experiencing with the 45LC?
Also I am going to try and keep shots at under 60 yds.
Any input appreciated

You really won't need to load very heavy with this gun at 60 yds for whitetail. I used to really load my BH way hotter than necessary. This year I'm going to try 300 gr RNFP cast in Lee mold using air cooled WW @ 900-1000 fps. A very good read with lots of info on loads for 45 colt: http://www.customsixguns.com/writings/dissolving_the_myth.htm
I've never had a deer go over 35 yds with well placed shot from 45.

I like the 250 XTP best in the 45 Colt But I have also used the 300GR Sierra in my Encore and Contenders. In my 625 Mtn Gun I use a 250gr FP cast bullet. In all cases I use 2400 power and a 350 CCI primer. I have killed several hogs and a couple of deer with the XTP and it has worked great. Large cast bullets also work well but I prefer the jacketed bullets. I hve never had anything that I have shot run further than about 15-20 yards.
Great round I love the old colt

If it jams force it! If it breaks it needed replacing anyway.

If you plan on going with cast bullets any good bullet in the 255-300 gr with 16 - 18gr 2400 is great for cast bullets, you don't need speed demons they already have alot of momentive. Got to love the big bore revolver.

13.0 grains of HS-6 over the Lyman "Keith" bullet is great on deer, and anything else I've shot with it for that matter.

I use a 300 grain LEE bullet, cast from water quenched wheel weights. I use enough Lil' Gun to yield 1000 fps. Plenty good out of my 10" Contender.

I use the Lee 300grn. bullets. Cast from w.w. with 2% tin added, water quenched. With 23grns. of H-110,I get 1300 f.p.s. and great performance on deer. This out of a Ruger Bisley with a 5.5in. barrel.I would not hesitate to use this load on any big game at woods range.

I dont know much but I know that big bullets sure make me smile!!
