im looking for some info on muzzle brakes. I just bought a contender barrel in 44mag it is 16 1/4 with the brake. any one with experiance please reply. thanks

I have a couple of 'Tender barrels with factory brakes, 375 Winny and 45/70 Gov. Used to have a 7-30 with a brake. I had a 44 tube once but it had no brake.

I had the use of a 12" 445 Super Mag barrel with an OTT Sharkgill break for a summer. I would say it reduced recoil by 50%. I shot the barrel a couple of times without the break, lets just say it was handfull. I have also shot a 15" 500 S&W, 50 Alaskan, and a 458 Win Mag barrel with the Sharkgill break. It really tamed the beast.

I was shooting the Rem 240gr SJHP @ 2,000 fps from the 12" barrel. I happened to get a charlie with it.

The Mag-na-port muzzle brake`s on my FA`s 454 and 475 have helped to prevent futher damage to my wrist plus make the guns much more manageable to shoot.

Take a hacksaw and cut em off unless you want a girl to shoot your handgun!! Just kidding, I have a bunch of mine braked for the simple reason, that nioce can controlled by ear muffs, but prolonged range sessions with heavy recoil guns can take its toll on hands, wrists and elboys---not to mention the fool who shoots your gun incorrectly!! I like them for that reason. A braked 223 will aloow you to see teh hit on a water jusg at 300 yards through the scope. Thye have many benefits. I like them for myself. jmho!!
