we all have seen the pudgy guy losing control of the 600 nitro encore, but what is the biggest and baddest chambering 50 caliber and under?

i recently shot a 416 Rigby, and i had an oppurtunity to shoot a 50 Alaskan, but declined the shot. (this indivdual was loading for recoil to show off his barrel, and i didnt trust the loading).

so, what has the most horse power ballistically?

I've shot Encores in .416 Taylor and .50 Alaskan; heck, I even shot a revolver in .50 Alaskan.

That's the main problem with .454 Casull and up. Too much testosterone and too little thought. There is no need to load those up to full potential for each and every shot taken.

I have and shot the following in a Encore pistol: 416 Taylor, 416 Remington Magnum, 416 Rigby, 458 Lott and a 470 Capstick.

If I ever get the money would like to get a 500 Nitro barrel.

BTH

I have shot Encore pistol barrels in 500 S&W, 50 Alaskan, and 458 Win Mag. All had OTT breaks so recoil was very managable.

I'm thinking that if the 3 of them can't cover what you are hunting it's time to look at light anti tank guns. LOL<LOL

The 416 Rigby is more than enough. I have room for 5 more grains of powder; safely, but recoil gets fierce!! I would be scared to death to pull teh trigger on an Encore in 416 Rem Mag-I don't think the gun is strong enough for that kind of pressure.

You guys must really love the punishment. I have a Raging Bull, BFR and Encore barrel in 454 Casull, and an 8" X-frame 500 S&W. They all seem to pulverize concrete blocks and anything else I shoot with them. I usually find myself reaching for BH 45 Colt when it's time to go huntin.

I have a .416 Rigby bolt rifle that gave me a wicked cut over the eye after getting careless. I`am amazed that you guys can shoot 416 and 458 handguns.

The Baddest Encore pistol BBL I have is a 416 GNR-a 50 Alaskan necked to 416. NASTY recoil even with a brake.

Bullelk Hunter,

The 416 Remington barrel was made by SSK which knowing them they won't make a barrel that is to high of pressure for the Encore frame.

Wow, that is way cool. I stand corrected. Anything JD puts in a TC is safe by any stretch. I know the 350 barnes or Hornady over 105-107 grins of 4831sc or Rel 22 is a hammer!! I may have to try the 416 Rem Mag for affordable factory brass. 416 Rigby Norma brass is high dollar stuff.

I have a 375 JDJ and H&H and the down-range result is what counts. I don't think my 416 Rigby would've done any better on my 6z6 Elk at 175 yds. The 375JDJ punched clean thru three times. My 375H&H was just chrony'd this past saturday. 300gr Sierra's at 2350fps and as accurate as anyhting I own. I love the old ones!!

Well, I don't have an Encore, but my "Hammer" is my 405 Winchester in an 18" custom barrel on my SS G2 Contender. Will kill about anything that walks; so far that has been several Whitetails for me at 150+ yards, hope to go for some bigger game one a these days.

I also have fired the Encore pistol in 50 Alaskan & 500 S&W, both with SSK breaks on them. They are not unmanageable. I do not want to fire them without the breaks.
