I'm starting to save up for a Ram and Pig hunt want to go to a driveable hunt since I live in Va I'm looking at the PA outfitters. My question is where is the best place to go, lets say on a 1000.00 dollar buget for the hunt. Which ram would you take for your first one and which one looks best mounted. What does the goat meat taste like I have never tasted any. I have never been on a payed hunt before so just looking for advice on this any web-sites posted would be helpfull. James I think these questions should be right up your alley. I don't have to stay in the PA area let me know wanted to stay with in a 8hr drive if I can.

Clayzzz -- I too live in Virginia and have been searching for closer hunts. I am getting a bit tired of the trek to Florida. I looked into Goldmine and it's only one state away. I can't vouch for the Pig Farm but have also heard good things about them. I am looking at a whole slew of outfitters in South Carolina and will report back my findings........

Keep me posted, please.

Clarkrange in Crossville TN has been around a while. My grandfather built and ran the place. Its 1000 acres of pretty rugged terrain and they usually have good animals.
SC outfitters for the most part are deer operations that happen to have pigs. Its free range and no guarantees for the most part. You'll be shooting feral hogs over bait or dogs and a 200lber will be a big one. There are some high fence operations where you can tell them what you want to kill. They'll put the hog out prior to your hunt and its usually no kill no pay. It all depends on how much of a challenge you want, and whether you want to hunt or just be the trigger man. Paradise Valley is a top notch free range operation.

Clay,I`ve never been to any outfits in Tenn. or S.C. and can`t make any comments, however, when you factor in the $1000 limit for boar and ram I would have to recommend The Pig Farm which is located in western Penn. not far from Ohio.I don`t know if that will be within an 8 hour drive from your place but I would have to say that for the size and quality of the boar and ram they offer the "Pig Farm" is the place to go. Give them a call and tell them you were recommended by Tony and James and see what price you can get for a boar/ram combination hunt.
I`ve never eaten the meat from sheep or goat rams but I would say that a Corsican ram with a good curl and long black beard makes for a great lookin wall mount.Let me add that if you book a hunt at the pig farm you will be the only hunters there the day of your hunt. Good luck and good huntin, James

I know of a few operations in SC that my colleagues have hunted that aren't high-fence operations. They've also killed hogs exceeding 200-lbs by quite a margin. There are all kinds of hunts out there, you just need to investigate them and get references. They're not all scam artists.

Fairfax. I am looking hard for a nearby hunt that can turn into a regular hunt. I need to scratch this itch at least a few times a year! I will let you know what I find out!

Whitworth got it, if you guys don't mind me asking what is the cost of having a pig or ram mounted I guess this is a question for Tony V. Iliked the way your mounts looked also was the Ram the same cost as a boar hunt I can't find a price on there web site.

I've never paid more than $400.00 for a boar shoulder mount, but it's been a few years. I think $500.00 is a safe estimate. Here's my best one.

Thats a good looking mount. I wasnt implying that all operations in SC were high fence, just that you need to do your homework and make sure what youre getting. Weve got some good outfits and some that arent so good. Im lucky or maybe not... I can walk out my back door and hunt hogs. Theyve become a real problem for our farmers. For every one over 200 lbs we kill , we kill 4-5 times that many under two hundred. If a hog has to work for his dinner and isnt being supplemented, a 200 lb piney woods rooter is a good one. A 300 lber is a rarity. Just like anything else, for every big one there's lots of little ones. Ive got three in a pen that I trapped a few weeks ago on a friends sod farm. There getting fed out for a July 4th BBQ. Ive killed a handfull over 200-250, Ive killed a truck load under that. I tend to try and kill them from 75-100 lbs. They're better eating and easier to drag out of the swamp that way.
