I have to admit it, my eyes are getting old. I need to plant a scope on my Raging Bull .480. What does everyone feel is the best choice. Red dot or regular scope? What about power 4x more or less. After I get used to it I'll put it on my Desert Eagle.

Hi Mark, & welcome to the forum.
I'm sure most folks will want to know what you'll be using the gun for. I have an "Ultra Dot 4" red dot on my S&W mod. 29 that I use for hunting & I love it. It works well in any light conditions I want to shoot in & has held up well to 325 gr cast bullets at 1300+fps(baby loads compared to your 480). I wouldn't trade it for a scope.
I think you'll find that the 2x Leupold will probably be the most recomended scope.
Enjoy whatever you get.

It is my extreme plinker. I hunt deer, woodchuck and on occasion anything that moves and annoys me. I would love to take out prairie dog hunting sometime.

Mark,

What range and are you talking of shooting at? What kind of terrain is a factor as well. Under 50 yards I think a red dot is a perfect choice. If you want more range then I think a nice 2x scope if the way to go. If you hunt in the real thick stuff then I think the red dot is it. It all comes down to personal opinion and preference.

Mark1, Welcome to the board! I have a 4X Leupold on my 480. It's OK for deer hunting especially if you have a second or two to acquire the target. Practice really helps.

I have also hunted woodchuck with it. The 4X is just right for that. I have taken two woodchucks over 75 yards. I have a total of 10 with the 480 so far. Chucks make good practice for deer season.
