It rained hard here today. About 6pm it cleared and the sun came out. I took my oldest boy and the 243 Striker out for some late evening hunting. We saw a small one as we entered the front field and got parked. We set up and waited a little but he never came back out. We then crossed the tracks and worked our way down the lond field to about the mid point. I spotted a charlie a ways down. I told Buddy to stay still I was going to move ahead a few more yards to get a little height advantage from a little roll in the field. I was able to set up quick and get a decent shot off. Buddy came over after the shot and says "I know you got him as I saw him flip over and drop flat". We checked the distance at 141 yards. The bullet entered the back edge of his lower neck and exited the lower jaw, well what was left of the lower jaw and neck. The 75gr V-Max does put a hurting on them.

Congrats on the shot!

It's not the gun, but the man behind it.

The scope is a Clearidge Ultra XP 6~20X40mm rifle scope. It's done well so far, very clear and bright.

Are you able to get close enough to get a full FOV with that without getting kissed? I picked up a Striker 243 barrel and was thinking of getting it braked to put a rifle scope on it.

No, if you have full field of view you will get bumped. I usuall find the charlie on a medium power, around 14X with a full field of view. That's about 3" of eye relief. Get the cross hairs solid on the chuck then dial it up to desired or full power. Then draw my head back about another 5 inches. The FOV closes in to about a nickle size or 1/2 the size of the occular bell. Then squeeze off the shot.

I think if you had a 16" heavy taper barrel and a break you could possibly have full FOV with a rifle scope and not have face/scope contact.

It took a little to get use to the 1/2 FOV but now it's second nature and works well for me.
