I am considering a muzzleloader pistol barrel for my Encore. Anyone have any experience with a ML pistol barrel? Does T/C still make this barrel? What about MGM? Any input very much appreciated...

I have one and it shoots pretty good. I like triple 7 fffg and 250gr barnes mz. Have killed two deer with it and did a great job. I have limited my shooting to 50 yards and it will shoot within 2 inches(I am not a great shot). I think TC still makes it in their custom shop.

I have owned one for about 9 years. The barrel length is 15". I do not believe T/C still makes the pistol barrel (maybe Fox Ridge?) I've tried Pyrodex, Goex, Hodgdon 777, and now have settled on "Jim Shockey's Gold," made by American Pioneer Powder. For bullets, I took a doe antelope with the Black Belt (Power Belt?) 295 gr. Copper Plated Precision Point and with the T/C 320 gr. Maxiball, I killed this bull:

It is a fun gun but also serious as Muzzle Energy is in the .454 Casull category.

Hello everyone. I joined a few days ago and have hunted mostly wild hogs, a few deer and some unlucky "targets".I took a whitetail doe with mine during black powder season in 2007 using 100 grs. of Triple 7 and a 300 gr. XTP. The shot was about 65 yards and she ran about 25 yards and down she went. I have a picture but don't know how to post it with this message.

I would love to hunt whitetail with a muzzy handgun but Virginia says it is a big no-no for big game!

Out of curiosity. What kind of sight are you using on that barrel? Thanks .

they stoped making it i was looking for one this fall.. for the price of going and having them make one you are actualy better off finding a used full size one and having it cut down to say like 16 inches and haven the front inch bored out to make it easyer to load and be able to use it as a carbine if needed..
thats the way ill be going this fall

bigbore442001:

I used the factory original iron sights that had the "Tru-Glow" inserts.

Thank you. I take it that you can't use an optical sight during the muzzleloading season?

You are correct. Or sabots on the bullets or pelletized powder.

Mine is very accurate with the 240 XTP mag sabot and 2/50 pyro pellets. Absolutely deadly on deer. If you can't find one on GunBroker or AuctionArms, I'd go with a cut-down rifle bbl too. You'll enjoy it.

I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a handgun today.

Checking TC Website, go Custom Shop, still showing an option to get either blue or SS Encore 15" .50 Cal MZ Barrel:

Greetings Gregg;
What kind of accuracy do you get with those loads MZ loads?
So when are you going to write a book on Handgun hunting?
You have the experience to write such a book.
Thanks
Mark
