Hey all,
Lets just say I'm wed to my 5.5 Vaquero .357 Mag. Funds won't allow a bigger howitzer. I have this load I have worked up that is proving very accurate: 160 gr. Cast Performance WFNPB over 8.2 gr. of Longshot. I'm stuck with 158-160 gr. projectiles because that is what my fixed sights are regulated to. I'm zeroed at 25 yds and on at 50 yds. I tried 180s out of curiosity and they shoot very high. Has anyone had experience with this weight and nose profile on deer?

The WFN is what you want because it will smack harder than a narrower nosed bullet. I'm not sure about your velocity but I've excellent results with the CPB's in other calibers. I'm pretty sure you'll be fine on deer at those ranges. I would be surprised if you don't shoot all the way through on broadsides.

back before most of us was born the 357 was used to take all manner of big game. the 1929 stoger cat. even stated that the .30 mauser could be used for bears!? you should have no problem.

At the ranges you mentioned I agree with Gary, those hardcast will most likely be a passthru shot. As long as it's in a deers boiler room he won't go too far.

Never shot it before, but wouldn't hesitate to if it's what I had. Should be just fine. I, too, like Hodgdon's Longshot powder.. Gonna have to try it in my 41s next. Should be great.

I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a handgun today.
