What load has been the best choice for shots as long as 200yds with 15 inch or longer barreled .460S&W on whitetails. I'd like the choices to be loads that are bought over the counter not reloads....................TX buckey

Hornady 200 gr. SST is S&Ws "200 yd bullit" for the .460. So far, it has proved to be a 175 yd bullit for me as I have taken a 305 lb. Illinois whitetail with that round out of my PC 10.5. I hope to join the 200 YARD CLUB soon.

Before the Flex Tips were available for reloading I shot the factory 200 grain Hornady and the only deer I ever shot at went down with one shot. Although I was hoping for a longer shot mine was a measured 73 yards. I was satisfied with the bullet performance. I have read where others were not as satisfied. YMMV.

Buck,

I used the Hornady 200 SST factory load antelope hunting several years ago. Shot a doe at a slight quartering angle, lasered 237 yds. I was using my S&W PC 6.5" w/ Leupold 4x scope. Bullet entered at right shoulder, took out heart & lungs and passed out off side. The doe dropped where she was. She weighed 92#.

Does anyone have any experience with Magtech's 225 grain offering in .460?

That sure sounds good! Gets me excited to take mine out this fall. The 200 gr. SST is what I reloaded for my Encore. It sure seems like a performer.

Buck,

The Hornady factory loaded 200 grain FTX will chronograph at close to 2,800 FPS out of a 15 inch Encore barrel. With a B.C. of .145, sighted in at 100 yards, the bullet will be about 6 inches low at 200 yards.

I have taken over 10 whitetails with that round and each one had total pass-thru--even the Illinois big boy @ 175 yds.

I have been using the federal/ barnes 275 gr for the last year with great results on deer @ 100 yds. I started reloading this year and with the 275 gr and aa #9 pdr have shot accurate groups well out to 200 yards will be using this bullet this year although i've just reloaded some rounds with enforcer powder and will compare the 2 powders and use the more accurate for hunting.

The 200 grain Hornady SST is plenty for 200 yard whitetail. The Corbon loads using Barnes 200 grain and 275 grain are also more than adequate. I have not used the new Fusion load but have heard it also works well on deer.
