All, aside from the known delivery issues how good are these cast projectiles in general? Specifically looking at the 340 hardcast for the 454s. Penn cast all of JDs many years ago.

I didn't know that. Contact JD, and ask his opinion.

I know I've heard Dan B. talk about them.

I have used the Penn bullets. I got some of the Hammerheads for my 45LC. It took a long time for them to fill my order. The shot okay but I wanted better. I did some research on cast bullets and settled on Beartooth Bullets.
I have purchased close to a thousand bullets from them now and will keep going back. One of Beartooth's most accurate cast bullets is the 340grn LFN Gas Check bullet for the 454 or 45 LC. I shoot the 300grn LFN gas check in my 45LC Ruger Hunter and everything I have shot with it has dropped or didn't go out of sight. They are the most accurate bullets I have shot in my Ruger. He usually gets them to me in a week or so. If he is out, he will tell you when he is making his next run of the bullet you want.
Here is the link.

Thanks for the feedback. I have played with the Cast Core bullets but not real happy. I've tried their 265's and 335's both w/gas checks (very similar in design) but they have not matched the Hornaday or the old FA 300's accuracy wise. I'm a bit of a velocity freak and maybe I'm pushing them too fast (335gr over 32gr H110?). I've been on the beartooth site, very informative. I think their key to accuracy is through doing the soft lead sinker bit and matching the throat/bbl to the slug. I am happy with jacketed bullets, you just cannot find them anymore so looking for alternatives.
