I like the 250 Hornady XTP over a medium load of 2400 and the 300 XTP over a max load of H4227

If it jams force it! If it breaks it needed replacing anyway.

An old favorite whitetail load uses a standard double crimp 300gr
XTP over 27.4grs of H-4227...Rem. 7 1/2 primer...using the top crimp on the bullet. A very accurate load for bigger game has a
300gr partition over 32.0grs of H-110 and Rem 7 1/2 primer.

Gee whiz Gary, you left me such a slam dunk opening so...

What about that "new Winchester factory load...?"

I know, it hasn't been tested that much yet, but I could not resist !

I noticed no one mentioned Lil Gun. The 300gr XTPs I get. the SR Federals for sure. But I would have expected someone to load Lil Gun. No one tried it, or is not a suitable powder?

Well the Dual Bond load from Winchester is very very accurate in my FA's but it's not a handload. I'm pretty sure you can't buy the projectiles yet.

The best load in my guns was the FA 260 gr. bullet over 36 gr of H110, FA cases and Federal small bench rest primers. 5 shots one hole at 50 yards. My favorite was the old FA 300 grain bullet, why they stopped making it I'll never know, over 32 grains of H110 same primer. Fast forward to today and it is 31 of H110 under the Hornaday 300 gr. Mag bullet. It is very accurate but not quite the old 300 FA bullet.

I recently loaded 7.0 grains of trail boss using a 335 grain cast bullet. Good accuracy at 50 yards. Haven't chronographed them yet but it was very mild and should be around 950 fps.

My load for my 454s is 300 gr XTP or Speer GD over 24 gr 2400. It is not the fastest thing out there but my revolvers group well with it. (BTW -- my 2400 is Hercules)

It's more important where you hit 'em, than what you hit 'em with.

Do you know who is making the projectile? I know Nosler and Winchester work together on both their proprietary brands and the Combined Technology stuff, in fact the handgun and 45-70 partitions were made at the Winchester plant but I'm not sure anymore since Nosler doubled the size of their plant a couple years ago. The main reason I ask is because Nosler is up to something but they are keeping it very quiet. When I was in there last I was asking why the 45-70 partition had been discontinued and all I got was they were coming out with something new and better next year. One person speculated it may be something to compete with the FTX stuff Hornady puts in the Leverevolution ammo but he really didn't know since it's all just in house rumors at the moment. Apparently no one outside of management or those directly involved with the project are privy to the details. The cool part for us is that it will very likes carry over to their handgun line since the earlier 45-70 partition was just a .458 version of handgun partition. protected point.

I won't be wronged. I won't be insulted. I won't be laid a-hand on. I don't do these things to other people, and I require the same from them. John Wayne-The Shootist
