Today while at the Department of Fish and Game getting my bear tag, I decided to go to the gun shop by there. While, I did not expect to find what I was looking for I thought I would burn some time since I was already 60 miles from home. And there it was a 44mag Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter 7 1/2 stainless. I have been looking for one for sometime now and none of the local gun shops had or could get one, so I bought it with no delay (First I called my wife, LOL). Can't wait to put my scope I just bought from Wapitiod on here and go to the range. Now the hardest part, the dreaded wait.

Oregon is same day after the back ground check but if you buy more than one you have to feel out extra paper work for the atf, I think the most I ever bought in one day was five, three rugers, a smith and a heritage but that was a while ago.

No pics yet got a 10 day waiting period, so my dreams will have to do for now. I was thinking about printing up a bunch of pics and puting them up around the house to get me by for the time being. LOL.

Sure glad there isn't a waiting period here in Alaska. It used to be if you had a concealed carry permit here you didn't even have to do the NICs check.

Here in NY we don't have a waiting period per se, but when you purchase a handgun you have to bring the receipt to your sheriff's office and have it ammended to your permit. That means a judge has to sign off on it. The quickest I've ever seen it happen is just over a week. Usually 2-3 is average, and sometimes longer depending on how busy the judge is. This may vary a bit county by county.

In Michigan if your a CCW holder you have a form you take to the gun shop that has 3 copies. You buy what and as many has you want and you drop off 1 copy of the form at your local PD.
If your not a CCW holder. You go to the PD, take a simple 10 question test. Ask for as many purchase permits that you want and go buy your guns. Bring back 1 copy of the form for each gun you bought. No limit, no waiting period. Purchase permit is good for 10 days from the date you get it.

Missouri is no waiting period. A simple phone call or computer entry and leave the store with your purchase.

Walk in, pick out your gun, browse around while they make a phone call, walk out with your gun.
We are required to hold a "permit to purchase" for handguns which needs to be renewed annually, which is a nuissance but there is no charge for it. It is like an advanced NICS check, but they also check your mental history.

You go to the PD, take a simple 10 question test. What's on the test? It's all true or false. Really easy. You should always make sure a gun is unloaded before handing it to someone else. Just common sense things like that.

Thats why I can't wait to get out of this state. I do have my CCW and all it helps with is not having to have proof of residency and doing the hands on for every handgun you buy, I figure if you can get a CCW in California you should be able to just go in an pick your firearm same day but that will never be the case here.

No wating period here, if you pass the 'instant fed check', you walk out the door with it.
It's not the gun, but the man behind it.

Same in VA just a check after the paperwork is done. When I got my S&W I went and picked it up and blasted a groundhog within 2 hours.

No wating period here, if you pass the 'instant fed check', you walk out the door with it. Same in Mississippi. Usually happens before you can finish filling out the yellow sheet.

Same day in SC...fill out form, go home happy. And get it in the safe before Mama sees it!
NC requires a handgun permit, purchasable through the Sheriff's department - $5 and valid for 5 years from date of purchase.

Yup, same in this county as yours pter1020k. Get the info paper from the gun shop, run to the county seat and register it, go back to the gun shop with the purchase permit and you are good to go. It works best if there is not alot of distance between the shop and the county seat. LOL

Same as Russ here. Backgound is run after filling out paperwork, and before you're finished browsing around for whatever else you simply can't live without, it's time to go with new gun in hand! Hey, New Hampshire may be "going" to crap - but it's NOT California!
Steve - if I lived in Cali I'd just plain shoot myse... on second thought, I just can't comprehend ever living in Cali.

I was born here and have a great job that lets me take deer season off so for the time being I am here. I still have some time to decide where to go I am just a youngster. Also my wife still likes it here and she likes to be around her family. Its not all that bad except the crazy laws and rules, I am 2 hours or less from everything I like to do hunt, fish, abalone, 4x4, and snow. So until I can't take it anymore here I am. Anyone else from CA?

Here in Arizona it is usually same day with instant check, but with a CCW they just fill out the paperwork and you leave with your purchase. Before I got my CCW there were a few times when NICS was down and if a weekend as much as three days would go by. Another reason I got my CCW.

Wisconsin has a 3 day waiting period, after you fill out the paperwork and pass the background check. I guess the legislators who dreamed up that law figured that if you had bad intentions with your purchase, you wouldn't be mad anymore after the wait. Of course you and I both know you can walk in to any place and buy a shotgun and use it in the parking lot 2 minutes later ... They might have good intentions when they make these laws, they just don't always think them through!
