I headed to the range this afternoon to do some work with a couple SP's that may go to WY next month.

The first was Lil'Monster...I shot it strictly from field positions using my turkey hunting frame pack...which I plan on using in WY. I rested the grip on top of the frame and the forearm was on a long legged Harris swivel bipod. At 500yds I kept twenty rounds inside a 6" circle...not great. But consider that my groups were fired after riding my mountain bike out to the 500yd backer, quickly marked the holes, pedaled back, quickly sat down, fired another three rounds, pedal out, repeat...you get the idea. So keeping that in mind...I was pleased.

Next I fired two guns from the bench to confirm loads. This started with the Striker .260 Rem (McGowan barrel) shooting 120gr SMK's. As usual, this gun shoot "ok". It held just barely sub-MOA to 400yds...200yd groups were around 1.8", 300yds went 2.6" and 400yds was around 3.5-3.75".

Lastly was the Kreiger barreled XP-100 .243 Winchester. It launces 70gr NBT's at just under 3200fps. I fired three shot groups at 200, 300 and 400yds like the Striker. The 200 went .465", 300 went .595" and 400 went 1.155". That's under .289 MOA out to 400yds......that gun is AWESOME!!

Now...I'm going to take two guns to WY. The Lil'Monster just HAS to go...wide open spaces and a 162gr A-Max at 2825fps. That's just a given.

The second gun slot of up for grabs...th Striker .260 Rem, the XP .243 Win or the XP .250SAI. To be honest, I truely love the .250SAI...I can handle that gun like its an extension of my arm so I'm heavily leaning that way. The .260 has never really turned me on...maybe cuz it's a Striker and just does not have the appeal of the XP's. Finally the .243...how the heck do you leave a gun that shoots THAT well at home. The downside is that its shooting the 70gr NBT and I think that may be a little light. But I've taken some nice whitetail from 280-413yds with a .243 rifle using 75gr V-Max's and it worked great.

Help!

16" 223 shooting 80gr VLD over Varget. Good to 500 or 600 for sure. Dan, it's only a 125lb skank goat for goodness sake?

But it would be illegal for big game in WY.
