I was able to finally get back out and do some real shooting with handguns for the first time since my wrist surgery and it was a blast. The first thing out was the Blackhawk 357 I put together with spare parts when I put another big bore on hold until I see how my wrist is going to hold up, the gun shot and functioned well although the groups were nothing to write home about but the loads I was using were some leftover 125gr handloaded hp's that I'd never had real accuracy with. The next one up was the
30-30AI contender. I received the barrel in a trade at which time it was a 30-30 win and was finished with what appeared to be a baked on laquer finish over sandblasted metal and the factory Hunter brake had been removed shortening it to 13". I decided this was a good barrel to break into re chambering T/C's on so I ordered a 30-30AI reamer and went to work, I also re finished the barrel. The chamber came out perfect and the first load I've tried in this gun with a 125gr Nosler BT was shooting just over MOA at 100yds but part of that may be due to me being a little rusty. The next gun out of the case was my 375JDJ with the Reeder installed brake (that is the next project I'm going to tackle at home) I hadn't shot this gun in quite a while so I wanted to see if it was still zeroed and found that it was and I also was just over MOA which is why I think I'm the problem because before I got hurt it was shooting sub MOA. The other pleasant thing I found is that it didn't hurt to shoot it. The next one out was my newly ported Reeder 6" 475 Linebaugh which I found I can handle easily without hurting my wrist now. This one I only was able to fire five shots which were all over the place. I was fortunately wearing my Walker Quad Power Muffs so I heard a rattling when I started to unload and sure enough I had killed my first Leupold scope, the ocular lens was blown loose and there were parts rattling internally. This was the first time the scope had been on the gun since the last time it sheared the scope mount screws and hit the ground hard via my forehead which that was the second time it had happened but hopefully with the new 8-40 screws and porting it won't happen again. The scope has survived roughly 500 rounds of full house 475 loads and two trips the ground so I can't complain and I'm sure Leupold will have it back to me quick enough for hunting season. The last gun out that day was the Vaquero 454 and with super hot 45 Colt loads it was ok but the full house 454 loads rattled my wrist a little so I didn't get to sighting it in yet. I went out again today just for a short session to try my newes project which was doing some more tightening of the action and rebarreling the 4" 500. I decided the 4" was way too much at this point for my wrist so I went to a 7.5 barrel and today I tested the gun. I found I had a badly worn firing pin as I hadn't changed it since I hadn't had a proble until now so I had intermittent misfires so I replaced the firing pin and did some measuring so everything should be good but I'll find out tomorrow. The 500 is a little better on my wrist than the 454 since it's more of a push and not as sharp of recoil as the 454 but then again the 500 is running around 35000psi and the 454 between 50000 and 60000psi.

I won't be wronged. I won't be insulted. I won't be laid a-hand on. I don't do these things to other people, and I require the same from them. John Wayne-The Shootist

Good to hear things are workin with the wrist.

It's not the gun, but the man behind it.
