What is the best handgun scope & mount & rings for a large caliber handgun? I have an Encore with 15" 375JDJ & 460 S&W barrels with open sights I am looking to buy scopes for but I want to buy one that will take the recoil these calibers put out. I know that both of these have the capability of reaching out over a hundred yards but this is almost impossible with the open sights. I have a Burris EER 2 x 7 on my Encore 15" 22-250 barrel but I didn't know if it would handle the recoil from the larger calibers?

I'd go with a TSOB mount from SSK. I have at least three rings on most of my boomers. I have had luck with a 2-7x Burris on my .500 S&W Performance Center. I have also had no problems with my 2.5-8X Leupolds. I have one on my .500 S&W BFR. It don't get a whole lot worse than the BFR in the recoil department.

I second the TSOB mount. I am not a fan of variable handgun scopes so I choose 4x Leupolds. Have had good luck with them.

It's more important where you hit 'em, than what you hit 'em with.

I like the MGM Mount with Warne or Leupold PRW rings. You get a lot of surface area with those setups.

If it jams force it! If it breaks it needed replacing anyway.

any of the mounts mentioned are good and on my big bores I stay strictly with Leupold, they are in my opinion the highest quality and their customer service is second to none.

As already recomended the T'SOB is second to none. I have them on all my Contenders that I hunt with topped off with Leupold scopes. I think they are the best. The 2.5 x 8 offers a good balance of eye relief, FOV, and light gathering.

I'll say TSOB too with out a doubt and Leupold 2.5x8. I have had Burris scopes on hard kicking guns for years although I haven't bought one in several years. I cannot attest to their current durability. The Burris will nearly always have the advantage over other scopes in FOV. I think the Leupold's are more consistent in great quality from scope to scope than the Burris but only because I've heard a fair number of people having problems with the Burris'.

My 375 JDJ wears a 3X Burris, it was on there when I bought it second hand. I have had good luck with it. I like the variables but its hard to justify buying one when with spare fixed powers laying around. I do have a Bushnell 3200 Elete 2X6 and I really like it on my 7mm TCU. I have been shooting my 7-30 Waters with an older Tasco 4X and the 7mm TCU with the Bushnell 2X6 side by side and the variable is just so much nicer, at least at the range.

I have a Burris 2x7 on my .308 Encore, Burris 2x on my .44 mag, and a Nikon 2.5x8 on my .475 Linbeaugh. I have not had any problems with any of them.

As it has been said before, TSOB along with Leupold 2.5x8. (however I do have Leupold fixeds as well). For a secure hold, I like the Warne rings in at least a 3-ring set-up.

(Got some nice beauty marks from the gunshop's attempt to lock down a variable Leupold on my .460 with 2 Leupold rings - didn't work so well...)

I really appreciate all of the advise. I am going with the TSOB mount with a Leupold 2.5 x 8 scope.

I have a S&W 657 in .41 mag that is topped with a Aimpoint 9000L with a 2x 2MOA mounted with Weaver rings. I know that .41's are not as big-bore as many, many others including the 460 and the excellent 375JDJ but in defense of my manly-ness, I do shoot 250gr's and I shoot a lot. I have not found the need for anything else from coyotes to elk for the range that I shoot (<100 yards.) The SD on the 250's is pretty impressive.

Also, thanks to all of you who make productive, informative posts. I have learned much and owe much to this forum.
