Well I sent a SRH in 454 back to Ruger today for some barrel and cylinder issues. The revolver was built in 2002 and after speaking with Bowen, Clements and Reeder I found out that it can't be re-barreled without a good possibility of ruining the frame. So we will see how Ruger handles this and the cylinder issue. I'm trying to keep an open mind and hope that things go smoothly.

Let's hear your experiences with Ruger Customer Service. Bad and Good.

Thanks,

Rich

All good so far.

I have had 3 guns rebuled
A broken fireing pin replaced
New load indicator parts for my MKIII (did not even send that one in).
Grip and parts for a RH

Now S&W that is another story (That did not work out so good)

If it jams force it! If it breaks it needed replacing anyway.

Ok let's throw this in there too. Any second owners have any dealings with them?

I have a SBH that the barrel twisted and broke the ejecter screw. Sent it back to Ruger and in less than 2 weeks had it back with a new barrel and ejecter housing. All it cost was shipping to Ruger. My opinion is trust them. I am the second owner of this one.

See post on GP100 they took care of it for me even though I told them it had been tampered with.

Ruger's customer service is second to none!

I wouldn't give up on hunting with it this year yet, unless they are swamped you may be surprised at how fast they get it back to you.

One season I am going to hunt opens Saturday. I might be able to catch the end of a season if I don't kill something this weekend. I'll just keep my fingers crossed.

Ruger did have mine a while (a few months), if you don't have a back up handgun this would be a great excuse to aquire one.

Not true. Jack Huntington is building me my second full-on custom on an SRH frame (he built me a .475 Linebaugh and the .500 Linebaugh is nearly finished). Yes, the barrels can be difficult to remove, but it most certainly is doable and he does it all the time.

No they told me the only ones they had trouble with are the 454 and 480. They will all rebarrel the SRH in 44. Something about Ruger changed the thread pitch or something on those two. Gary Reeder said that when he talked to Ruger they told him he would be better off not to even try to get the barrel off of the 454 or 480.

Yes, and my .500 started life as a .454. Jack has told me it is a bit of a process, but he has done many of them.

If you need some work done or have some questions for him, give him a call. I will pit his work up against any gunbuilder in the US, and he is one of a couple that actually builds his own cylinders (for others I might add as well). Call him at (530) 268-6877. You will find him quite pleasant to deal with.

Let me know what he says!

I just talked to Jack again about this and all is the same between the various caliber SRHs save for the glue/thread lock that is used on the .454s and .480s. Give him a call.

I just spent 38 min. on the phone with him. He told me the secret if I promised to not let it go.

He is a wealth of info. He said that I just told him the best bad story about a Ruger. He told me that more than likely I will get a different gun back with the same serial number. Really good guy. Thanks Whitworth.

Take Care,

Rich

I only recently started buying Rugers again, because of issues I had with the Service Dept in the revolver plant. I don't understand how they can be so inconsistent in dealing with problems. They stepped up to the plate & repaired my .41
Redhawk without issues, then ended up losing my Super Blackhawk for over 6 months a year later. After they found it, they returned it unrepaired. At the time, I was big into Rugers, but not so much anymore. There were others, but these stand out. It seemed like every other transaction had an issue. I hope they've cleaned up their act now.

Well I checked in with Ruger last Friday and it was in the evaluation stage. From there they said it will go to the range and then to the work bench. I would love to be there when they fire it and hit the bank two feet to the left of the target just to see what kind of things come out of their mouth.

What I would like to hear from them is that they cut my gun into little pieces and sent me a new one and the little pieces for a paper weight.

I know a lot of guys here (vast majority) have had good luck with Rugers CS. I however have not and I've come to realize the only possible explanation for all of my, my dad's and both of my brothers' problems with ruger's firearms and CS is rooted from beginning. When William Ruger and Alexander Sturm were founding the company, they promised eachother that some how, some way, 50 years from then, when my family would start to buy Rugers, they would make sure each firearm had an issue with it and only after great hardship, stress and aggrivation, would the problems NOT be resolved.

I would have to say that Ruger's customer service is good/great from all the good words I hear about it. I have just never had those same experiences, which is a shame because Ruger does make some good products; that is if your last name is anything other than mine.

Ha Ha, not really funny but finally someone who has the same results as myself..thought I was the only one...I call first, in a very nice voice explain my dilemma, am promised quick results, professional service..in fact they are sitting on the other end, laughing and saying to co workers "yeah right, thats gonna happen" good luck my friend, and believe half of what you hear about CS.. "Is it great CS or poor quality control"??

Well after seeing the problems that my SRH had I would lean toward the poor quality control. You just can't turn out a gun of any type that shoots feet to the left at 25 yards. Let alone the cylinder being cut too deep for the extractor to the point that it damages the case rim to the point that you almost can't get them in the shell holder to reload them. I'm hoping for the best and have prepared for the worst. I bought a really ugly SBH that shoots really well. 1.5" at 25 with iron sights. If the SRH doesn't turn out I can have the SBH converted to 454 or 475L.

Well I finally heard from them today. It sounds like they didn't even shoot the gun after the evaluation. They sent it straight to the re-barreling stage. Maybe they will try it with a new barrel. 5 weeks so far.

Finally got the SRH back today. Same gun I sent to them. The repair sheet states that they "repaired" Barrel Gap, Crane, CYC REL BUTTON?, Internal parts. I can't shoot it until the tendonitus heals up, but the one thing I would like to know is are any of the things they "repaired" going to make it shoot centered or is it still going to shoot 2' to the left. What about the .4532" bore diameter? Is shooting .451 or .452 jacketed bullets going to be out of the question? Just a little frustrated I guess.
