I have a new barrel on the way and it is of the iron sighted variety. Does anyone hunt without optics on these guns and if so, what range is your limit? I realize that there are and endless amount of factors that play into this.

Depending on caliber I may use open sights when I hunt. If I am using a caliber that has a rainbow trajectory (500 S&W, 357 mag., 44 mag. etc.)and don't anticipate shots longer than 100yds. I'll use irons. For calibers that have a flatter trajectory (308 Win, 7mm TCU, 223 etc.) I'll use a scope. I do alot of bowhunting and have found that getting within 75yds not too be too much of a problem. Would I use iron sights on my 308? Sure, but am too lazy to take the scope off and resight it in.
