Hey guys! I finally decided what pistol to purchase. I ordered a TC G2 Contender in .44 Mag -stainless and also ordered a Pistol Packaging holster with the Bandolier belt. My question is this: I am looking into topping it off with a Leupold scope and am looking into the Leupold bases and rings. Do you think it would be a good idea to use the Quick Release base and rings for the scope so that I can use the same scope for other calibers purchased in the future? I know I would have to re-sight the scope when changing calibers, but it would save me money not having to purchase a scope for each barrel. Does anyone else use this type of system? Thanks!

Great rig!! I would go with the Leupold dual dovetail mounts and rings. They are VERY strong. I have heard too may problems with handgunners using the quick release system. Seams they keep stripping them out… JMHO

I use Weaver bases and Leupy Rifleman rings on all my T/C's. They work like a QD in that you can take the scope off if you want and put it on any other T/C Weaver base, but they hold much more securely. Plus you can buy the entire mounting system for about $20.
Rod, too.

I recently had a failure with the Burris QD rings on my 6.5" .44 revolver. The positive stop pegs that mate with the grooves on the base were sheared off and the whole scope would shift 1/4" after every shot. These were not max loads either.

If I were trying to use QR I would look into Talley. They make the best rings for this type of set up IMO.

All my barrels have thier own scopes. Once I get things set, I like to leave them alone.
I use a Weaver type base and the Burris Signature Zee rings. I like the plastic inserts for true scope allignment and they don't leave marks on the scope tube.

Likewise, I have had a failure with my Leupold QRW's on hard-kickers...Leupold was great about repairing/replacing, but I won't be using again on my heavy recoilers. As far as the Weaver-mounted rings go, I like the Warnes or Weigands...

...."Weaver bases and Leupy Rifleman rings on all my T/C's"....
it couldn't get any better than that for me. i like 3 rings also.
i want a scope on each barrel. if i can't afford many.....i'd stop at only 2-3 barrels to accomplish that.

I would think you will spend more money sighting in than you would spend on a new scope if you keep switching the scope from one barrel or gun to another. My thaughts are find a good scope for the barrel or gun sight it in and leave it there.each gun deserves it's own sighting system.

I also agree on dedicated combos. I first tried to switch scopes from barrel to barrel to save a few bucks but it got to be such a hassle that I quickly gave up on it. It always seemed that the scope was on the wrong barrel when I needed it. You don't have to buy $400 scopes for everything, and there are some real good deals on slightly used out there.
Rod, too.

Thank you guys for the great advice. I think I'll buy one scope per barrel. I had not thought of some of the points that you guys have made.
By the way, my holster and bandolier from Pistol Packaging came in today. I can't believe how nice this setup is. It is so much nicer than the photos on the site looked like and I pictured the bandolier being stiff as a board -not so!!! When I spoke with the lady on the phone she was so very helpfull. My pistol has not come in yet but when it does I am going to post some photos.
Thanks again for the advice, it won't be the last time I ask for it!!!
