Hey all! New poster here.
I'm looking to scope my 454 SRH. Never used a scope before and only killed one deer with it. Standard shooting ranges here are 25-100 yards. Sometimes up to 150 yds if you catch a critter in a good opening.
What I'd like is a small 2x red dot that doesn't look like a Mack truck riding a monkey, but can only seem to find 1x red dots or standard pistol scopes.
All input appreciated. Feel free to convince me NOT to put a scope on this also!

Feel free to convince me NOT to put a scope on this also! One Ragged Hole There's nothing wrong with a 1x dot sight. I like zero mag as I shoot with both eyes and that makes it easier to get on target quick. If you are new to scoped handguns low mag is easier to learn, so a 2x Burris or Leupy would be good too.
Rod, too.

I would prefer a 2x Leupold or Burris for that application

Tru Glo makes a 2x red dot sight that doesn't look like a mack truck riding a monkey. I think it is a 2.5 or a 3.0 moa dot. In the Midway catalog I think it sells for about $100.

You want a Bushnell 3200 Elite 2X-6x-32 scope.
Its like a Timex. Its takes a licken and keeps on ticken.

.........that doesn't look like a Mack truck riding a monkey......... Never heard it put like that before. My preference...for fixed I like the Weaver 2X and 4X. For variable the Bushnell 2-6X are really nice. A higher end variable is the Burris 2-7X. Dots are ok...I like my magnificaton though!!!

Thanks, everyone for your input.
I finally made it to a shop that had the 2x & 4x Leupold FXII. I thought I wanted the 2x, but 2x is like NO X. 4x was good, but without being mounted on a gun, was a bit difficult to tell how shaky I was. After seeing the 2x, I may go with a red dot or hologram or jump up to the 4x. The variable X is just plain out of my price range.

4x was good, but without being mounted on a gun, was a bit difficult to tell how shaky I was. You are just as shaky with a 1x or 2x as with a 4x, you just don't notice it as much. A 4x will make you a better shooter as it forces you to concentrate more, and you get a better picture of the target. Take a look at the auctions and classifieds to find a good used one, I've never been able to afford a new Leupold myself. I also prefer 4x in my fixed power scopes, but for some new shooters it is easier to pick up the target with 2x or none. Take a look at Burris if Leupy is too much $$$
Rod, too.
