Got this buck yesterday in NW Oklahoma with my Encore 209x50 pistol. Just got this pistol last week. 4 pnt, 140lb. 80 grns of 777 with 200 grn Shockwave bullet. 86 yds, hunting on the ground, watching some draws with cedars and brush.
Was waiting for a couple of 8 pnts I have on my game camera but the land owner told me about his big body buck with only forks and he had a bum back leg. Looks like it was caught in a fence close to the hoof.

Very nice? Was that a rifle barrel that was cut to pistol length? Just wondering cause I've thought about doing that to my 209x45.

It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger squeeze.

KRal, this is a pistol barrel, Custom shop TC from the factory I was told by the previous owner. He ordered it with pistol and rifle forend spacing drilled.
I did have my old 209x50 Encore rifle barrel cut off and fitted with a new crown a few years back. It shot great but my hunting buddy used it more than me so he owns it now. I was still shooting flintlock rifles more then.
I have thought about scoping this barrel but I can still hit well out to 150 yds with the fiber optic open sights so I'm leaving it as is right now.
I'm going to use it for our late firearm doe season in Dec just cause. I really like the way it shoots.
I'm going to try some of the Power Belt bullets and see if they load any easier and shoot just as good.
Mike

Congrats!! I carried mine 4 days, but never got a shot.

Good job Hawkeye. I have had good luck with the 320 Maxiball (killed a bull elk-one shot) with my 209 X 50 Encore Pistol. Mine is the original factory offering with 15" barrel that was a catalog item at one time. Using Triple 7 powder I have duplicated .454 Casull ballistics with that load.

I have also used the 295 gr. Power Belt/Black Belt bullets...killed 2 bulls with 2 shots, and a third 7X7 that took 2 shots... with my rifle version 209X50.

I want to try out the new 350 gr. Hornady FPB (“Flextip Projectile Blackpowder”) but have not yet done so. It has a hollow conical base (copper not plastic as with the "Belt" bullets) that is supposed to flex for easy loading and then blow out to seal the bore upon firing.

If anyone has experience with that bullet, rifle or pistol, please post about it.

Congrats! I, too, plan to get a 209 barrel one of these days.
Good luck during the late season.
