So ive been looking for a 410/45lc vr barrel and have come across a 10" version. Im looking to get a barrel for squirrel shooting. How much difference would that 5" make with shooting 410 in it for my said purpose? Thanks guys

I have a 10" and wouldn't have it any other way. It is deadly to 25 yards, and is easy to handle. I have 14" barrels as well and they are not as easy to carry as the shorter tube. You will get a bit more velocity with a longer barrel but I don't think that outweighs the advantage of ease of handling the 10" provides. Long barrels are fine from bags but your 410 won't spend much time on the bench. JMHO.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

Well put Rod. In a 410, a 10in is the way to go! Particular for small moving targets!!

I have an encore 12" 45-410 before I bought it I was able to barrow a 15" barrel and I used it one time and I sent it back to the owner and found a nice 12". I feel the 12" gives a good balance between speed and handling.

i have the 14" and it works great on small critters especially squirrels.I would not trade for anything except mabe a 10"the 14" is a little end heavy but you can easily get used to it.with shot shells they are a 25 yard gun with either barrel.

in short go get the 10" before it is gone you will not regret it

Because of the choke tube in this barrel, buckshot is irrelevant to this discussion. It can't be fired in these barrels.

I have the 15" for the Encore and it will do a job on small critters out to twenty yards.

Why not, couldn't you just take the choke out?

TCMan is right. I checked the Encore manual. It states to take the choke tube out to shoot buckshot or slugs.

I have an H & R Handy Rifle that states not to shoot slugs.

Sorry, I got a little confused.

I stand corrected.

I load my own "buck shot" with pure lead round balls and with the wad it just fits in side the choke tube with a little firm pressure.
I shoot this load the most when hunting and have not had any issues with it and the choke tube.

I have no idea how factory loaded rounds will work.
