In the post 30-06 vs 308, RickyP commented he liked a bullet to use it's energy inside the animal and not exit. I agree to a point. Which is better, lots of damage inside the animal or an entrance and exit hole spilling blood to follow? I think I just opened a can of worms!

I didn't say I like the bullet to say in side. My commit was what ever energy remaining after the bullet exits the animal is wasted.
My point was more about people getting hung-up on a few hundred FPS such as comparing the 308 to the 30-06. Once the bullet hits the animal does it's job and goes out the side that extra few hundred FPS is useless. and you are paying for it with recoil and powder.

This is almost a moot point with the bullets and rounds we have now days, most bullets will exit and do a lot of damage. Even shotgun slugs have come a very long way. the modern 20 ga slug is 100% better then a 12 ga was just 5 years ago.

Ditto what RickyP wrote.
You're splitting hairs when it comes to the .270, 308, or 30.06.
The 308 has a short action.
The .270 is a tad flatter shooting.
30.06 has more punch and bigger bullet selection........

Ect., Ect., Ect., You can go on for days.............

Don't confuse shooting with hunting.
Shooting is a game, hunting is a sport.

RickyP, I misread your comment. I agree. I just wanted to get everyones opinion on what they felt was better. I like a NBT in a "rifle" cartridge and a XTP in "pistol" cartridge.

I like two holes...with the exit being substantially larger than the entrance on rounds smaller than .358". Hornady Interlocks, SSPBs, NBTs and A-Max's are my faves. Anything over the .358" diameter in straight wall cases gets a cast bullet...leading to a through and through...and short (if any) tracking job. Just be sure to break bones.
