I have a 14" 30-30AI factory Contender barrel. Easily shooting under 1MOA. It did that with fireform loads.

Am on 1st real go at it. Using Hornady 150 SST. I have gotten a few misfires on the first trigger pull.

I am only neck sizing. It does have a tight chamber that is about 2 thousands over loaded neck diameter.

Should I be bumping the shoulder back ever so slightly?

Any other suggestions?

i always use a full length die adjusted to my best ability to maintain shoulder position at all times.

if your case shoulder position is not correct(correct headspace), then that could possibly be causing your misfires. another option is the hammer spring, but i'd check headspace first.

ideally you want your case to fill the chamber + the amount of barrel to frame gap....minus a couple thousandths.

you can remove the barrel, use the chamber as the gauge, and determine if your case is going in too deep or sticking out too far. adjust the full length sizer accordingly.

Thanks but in this case, neither headspace or weak spring is the problem. It is a new tender and works with the other cartridges I'm using. It's not excess headspace as I am only neck sizing.

It could be to little headspace. Thanks for the info on checking it.

If it's a new combination then it's most likely that the bolt needs a little honing if that frame works with other barrels.

Sounds like everything is too tight in relation to your chamber and frame. Your shoulder needs bumped a little to allow the frame to lock up completely.
