I have a Taurus 24/7 OSS 9mm which has proven to be a great gun. But thinking about getting a 1911 now that I see more 45acp ammo about town. Anyone's thoughts about the perforance of these types of guns. Or should I jst get another Taurus 24/7 OSS 45acp. Any in put would be appreciate, and once again thanks.

Well 1911s are a personal choice, if you love them nothing else will do, if you don't well a lot of other guns will. I am a 1911 guy to my bones and believe in the 45acp as a self defense cartridge above all others.

I carry a Les Baer Super Tach II most days in a Milt Sparks Summer Special loaded with Federal Hydra-shok ammo. There may be a better set up out there but I have not found it...

I will admit that at times full sized 1911s are a bit big for daily carry depending on how you have to dress and I carry a Smith 442 snubbie for those days. It is a far cry from the Les Baer if things got serious but would beat the heck out of a pocket knife...

I have a Kimber Custom Carry, 70 Series Colt Gold Cup Nat'l Match, and a 70 Series Colt Government customized to the gills...I love the 1911 guns and yes they can be bulky but I can deal with that. They can all feed bricks and run like a top.

I carry a mil spec remington from WWII, I did some mild work to it, but nothing to crazy, and as far as I'm concerned its the cats meow. Reliable accurate at close range and tough!!!

I carry the Taurus PT1911 and it has never missed a beat. I don't think I will ever buy any other model for an every day carry gun.

After I sold a Ser. 70 Gov. I bought a Ser. 70 Gold Cup back in 1976 and still have this excellent 45. Recently gave my brother a Colt Defender in 45 that was also a fine handgun....

How about a Wilson KZ-45 (1911 polymer frame with 9+1 cap) on the night stand next to the Surefire Flashlight and a Kimber Stainless Ultra Carry with Crimson Trace Laser Grips for my carry gun.

For What It Is Worth: I too am "infatuated" with the amazing variety of "self defense" loads available out there, including the INFamous Winchester Black Talon load that was removed from dealer's shelves due to bad press (I have a bunch of 'em)
;\)
BUT...

Like I said: FOR WHAT IT IS WORTH: I have been told by a knowledgeable person that if you shoot a bad guy with one of the "Super Loads," and don't kill him, that his defense attorney will have a hay-day with you, IE: "You were Planning To Shoot Somebody, Judging By The Ammo In Your Gun..." and that we would be better off to just load our 45's with hardball ammo 'cuz it will still drop 'em like flies and the attorneys can't go there with you on the "Super Ammo..."

I don't know, just passing this along...

Got a Sprigfield TRP, as well as others the 1911 in my opinion is the finest fighting handgun ever designed, The 45ACP cartridge is the best defensive round you could have. do I like the 1911 ohhhh yeah, between my Fiance and I we own 52.

I have several 45 auto pistols. would not be caught without one. My personal favorite is the kimber pro covert. because of its accuracy.I carry this pistol everywhere.

Yeah we love them I just ordered a new Springfield Loaded target, with adjustable sights in Black stainless steel.
Sorry you got to wait but I love to buy them.

My Fiance and I agreed when we meet that we would buy 1, 1911 a month, and we are on a roll.

I've been carrying a STI Guardian for a couple months now. It has some feed issues but I think they will work out. It is not the lightest or easiest to conceal but I don't mind knowing it is there.

I have a Taurus PT 1911. It has been the best 1911 Ive owned. It shoots circles around the Colt Gold Cup National Match I used to own. With the Taurus you get a slick tricked out pistol right out of the box for half the cost of most of the competiton.

God God man! You been under a rock? I've carried a lot of different handguns for work & play. 1911 is the only ONE! That said, carry what you like & makes you happy.

Kuddos on the Rock Island Arms 1911-got mine in 2005 and never looked back.Gobbles up any ammo I feed it and functions without a hitch. As far as the 1911 goes it's really simple to tinker with if you're into that,I "hotrodded"mine myself-trigger,hammer and sear, longer thumb safety, beaver tail grip safety, recoil spring and polished the feed ramp. It shot well enough as a stocker but I couldn't leave well enough alone-it shoots even better now. Just my 2c. SAS98M
