Deer season started Saturday the 21st in New York. I started off with the 500sw encore barrel on my pistol with a red dot for my usual hunting spot. Early morning 2 does sneak up on me cutting through hedgerow about 30 yards to my right. First one makes it through hedgerow and I shoot-off it runs, the second steps out into opening I shoot, it turns around, i shoot again and it walks off. I get down look around no blood or anything. So I'm not sure what happened with those: nothing like doe fever. Monday we head off to the southern Tier to hunt near addison on my uncles property. Really foggy in the morning so didnt stay out long as couldn't see anything. we did some drives in the afternonn. I have the 308 barrel with a 2.5-7x scope on the pistol now. I am walking through a goldenrod field and this deer jumps up 10 yards in front of me. It was totally crazy it stayed until I got That close!! I raise up the gun and I cant see the deer as its running away from, fov small and getting moirror reflection as gun canted some. I get off a shot and deer turns to the right-about 40 yds now, now I see the horns. I get a broadside shot and it puts tail down and walks about 50yds and drops. Only one hole, was a little far back but obliterated the lungs split the liver and just nicked the stomach which kinda sucked. I was shooting winchester 150 gr soft points (silver box factory ammo). Entrance hole into ribs small, inside rib cage about 1/2" entrance into other side ribs almost 3/4". Passed straight through and exited. Scrub buck but I have never been a horn hunter so I was thrilled, especially since first time out with the 308 barrel. [/img]

Congrats!

It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger squeeze.

Congrats fellow NY'r, I am a meat hunter as well. got a big bodied scrub buck sunday morning. Good thing because I never got a good recipe for horn soup. Besides, it costs a lot to throw one up on the wall
