I Can Actually Remember Helping And Old Friend Cut-Down .308 Military LC Arsenal Brass To Fit The RCBS Forming-Dies To Make Cases Because Nobody Was Loading Ammo Yet When I Was About 15 Or 16 Years Of Age.

The Sad History Of The AMT Automag's Failure In The Market Was Its' Reputation For Feeding-Failures. In Those Days All Automatic Pistols Were Sold Fresh-Off-The-Line Without Having Had Any "Tuning" Work Done Whatsoever. There Were Gunsmiths All Over The Place Who Specialized In "Accurizing" Jobs Especially For The Colt .45 M1911 Series. All The Job Really Consisted Of Was Breaking-Down The Gun And Fine-Polishing The Internal Bearing Surfaces(Plus A Special Barrel Bushing Kit For Those 1911s) So That There Was Nothing Left Inside Anywhere To Snag-On Something Else. Special Emphasis Went On The Feed-Ramp. All My Buddie's Customers Had Theirs Done In His Shop And Not A Single Gun Was Reported As Failing To Feed The 240 Gr. ("Truncated Cone")Sierra Hollowpoints.

I have several of these, two 44AM, one 357AM, one 22LR (this was a take-off of the Ruger Mark 1, and AMT was forced to halt production). The AMT assets were purchased by Lee Jurras and Hollywood Arms, some of the guns bear the Jurras or the Hollywood marks. They all shoot great, provided one is willing to put the extra time into them, cleaning, polishing, etc. Parts are near impossible to find! Like any hi-performance toy, require attention; but, the results are worth it!

Is It Just Me Or Did Grand Ol' Lee(Leon?)Jurras Develop/Invent The First Jacketed-Hollow/Soft Point Pistol Bullets?

Lee Jurras didn't invent the jacketed soft / hollow point bullet; however, he did pioneer the high velocity, light bullet concept for pistol use. He started an anmunition company called "Super Vel". They sold loaded ammo and components. If anyone has some of this ammo or some components, they are "gold"!

I DO Remember Old "Super Vel". He Loaded A HOT Little .380 ACP Jacketed-Hollow Point Round(Which I Believe Put The M.E. Right-Up-There With The .38 Special +P) Of Which In My Life I've Seen Only ONE Single Box. An Old Friend In Georgia Who Had An Original Semi-Auto "INGRAM MAC-11" Aquired Them Somehow.

I have an empty ammo box of the old Jurras Super Vel. I think 357 mag, but the box is in the attic so I can't confirm.
