I tried working on that bullet back in the early 90's and never could get it to shoot. I'm using an SSK 16.5" w/arrestor break. LOVES the 270 hornady spitzer, so that all I used till now. NOW I have to find a lead free bullet and load... /cry

I never tried the Speer 235grn bullets, probably because I couldn't find any at the time. I had SSK build me a 14" shilen barrel w/arrestor break in 375JDJ. I started with the Hornady 220 grn flat point using 49grn of IMR4895. I was getting 1.5" groups at 100 yds and it was running 2010fps. This was my first hunting load.
I then found the Hornady 225grn SP and started using it with H-4895, 49grn and it was shooting 2040fps. I could hit the 6" gong at my rang most ever shot at 200yds.
The best load my barrel liked was the 260 Nosler Accubond with 47grn of Varget. It is running 1830fps and shoots all day inside 1.25" at 100yds and had taken hogs, deer and one elk.
Most shots were dead right there. I have it set at 1.5" high at 100 and it is 4" low at 200yds using a Weaver 2.5x8 pistol scope.
I don't know what barrel you have but you might want to start a grain or so lower than my loads and work up to see what your barrel likes.
I also shot the Hornady 225grn SP bullet in my .376 Steyr MOA and it is instant death on game. It's running 2450fps and is real good out to 300 yds.
Good luck on your loads.

Mike

I remember reading in some of the earlier issues in the sixgunner that no one has had much success w/ the 235 gr. speer. The 250 gr. Sierra would be a better choice.
