Hey guys. A couple days ago I bought a used Encore in 7mm-08 w/a 15" barrel. It wears a t/c scope. I cant pick it up until I get the paperwork in order, about 2-3 weeks. Yesterday I bought the 22lr barrel for it in the same length figuring it would be cheaper to use for practice as well as to get some small game hunting in with. My ? is about which scope to get for this barrel. I have no experience w/pistol scopes. I cant decide between 2x, 4x, or a variable like 2-6x. I appreciate any input you may be able to offer. Thanks guys.

your going to need a rimfire conversion if you don't have one already. the Bushnell trophy 2x6 is a great scope

2.5x8 Weaver!

It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger squeeze.

If it is a factory 22 long rifle barrel then he will not need the conversion. he will only need that when he is using a custom barrel. The factory barrels are off set so they use the same firring pin.

I somewhat favor the T/C 2.5-7 scopes I like the cross hairs in them. the next choice would be a Bushnell 3200.

I have a 15" 22 long rifle barrel for my encore I have had it a few months but yet to do anything with it. I did fire a single round from it just to see it it really worked.

a variable is a definate need imo. you have low x for hunting, but higher x for target shooting or longer shots, even if just for fun.
you might consider a riflescope on the 22lr handgun. you can get a lot of x's for targets, and still have a very wide fov for hunting on the low x. it takes a lil getting used to, with different holds etc, but it is worth it. getting up close to the riflescope should be worry free on the 22lr. my preference would be one with an adjustable objective.... A/O.

You can get away with a rifle scope on the barrel but I prefer to use the same scope as I do on my hunting barrels.

I like to use the smaller calibers for range work to keep in practace with the weight and trigger pull of the hunting barrels and is I am using the same scope I get the same sight picture and hold.

I appreciate the thoughts. I was thinking the same thing as RickyP as far as practicing like I was hunting. I think I'm gonna go w/the variable of some sort. I was thinking that the 2x gives up too much at distance, and the 4x is a bit much up close, just wanted to get everyone's thoughts that had already been down this road. Look forward to hearing more responses. Thanks guys. Now whats an adjustable objective?

an A/O is the yardage adjustment ring on the front of a scope. they come on riflescopes mostly, but burris does have the 3x12 handgun model so equipped and a few other select model handgun scopes have had it in the past.

the A/O allows one to adjust out the parallax. parallax being what you see if you move your head side to side or up/down and seeing the crosshair move on the target, which will lead to less accuracy.

keep an open mind toward the riflescope on a 22lr handgun. they are most excellent there imo. i can assure you i would have no trouble taking game with my other setups because of it.

here are my 22lr match and 17m2 contenders so equipped......
