I bought a ruger P89 and was wondering if the is any problems or aftermarket parts to make this a better gun? I hope I got a decenent deal on it. I payed $280.00 and the dealer payed the background check and transfer fee. It came in the ruger case with both the clips, the clip loader, and the instruction manuals. I took it apart and it looked like it had never been fired(no marks where the slide meets). I did add Hogue grips to it. I bought it to shoot at the local indoor range over the winter. I am new to semi-auto pistols, any advice would help, cleaning and care, ammo. Also I am thinking of painting glow in the dark paint on the sights.

They're fine. Much more durable than the lower price crap now available. What they lack in refinements, they more than make up for in durability & reliability. Most people don't like the way the trigger feels, and the gun is on the thick side. You got a good deal.

I have shot the P89 since they first came out. The only issue I have had is that the P89 needs to be kept clean to cycle reliably. Seems to not cycle properly when extremely dusty (like when I carried it while driving my 4 wheeler). About the only thing I have done with the trigger is to polish the contact points. Helped some, but in double action, there is still a lot of creep.

My wife qualified for her CCL with a P89. Loves the weight and mimimal recoil.

Nothing wrong with the gun at all. It is a great service pistol. It will not drive tacks at 50 yards like some of the 4 digit cost 45 ACP's will but it will work when they will not. I have one and love it.
You bought a great gun at a great price.
