This is an Encore you probably won't see very many of:
209X50 Muzzleloader

Along with a FA Model 83 in .454 wearing Bushnell 3200 Elite 2X6.

Ive seen a muzzleloader pistol before and I was just curious as to the recoil on it is. Looks like it would be fun but also tear your hand off too.

This pistol has no brake and with a 100 grain load of powder and a 295 gr. Black Belt the recoil will get your attention but not as bad as you think; not nearly as bad as some other centerfires with no brake. Not really a sharp snap like the CF's but more of a "push."

For instance: I shot the .270 Encore that I gave away on the HHI Antelope Hunt (with some factory ammo) and it was far worse.

Rite on< I shot a muzzleloader for the first time thinking it was a ball buster and it turned out to be a mild pussy cat

Lamina, how do you like the 500sw? I'm down to either the Encore 460 or 500 for my next purchase and wondering about recoil and effective distances. Recoil is not the major factor--I hunt with an S&W .460 PC and recoil is very manageable with the 200 gr. Hornady.

Here's mine with the 6.5x284 barrel, I'm getting a bipod for it when I get back.
It's 18" without the brake and it's wearing a Burris 3x12 w/Illum dot.
I also have pistol barrels in 45-70 and 308, rifle barrel in 243.

kingfisher--Of the barrels the 500sw is my favorite to shoot. It currently has a red dot on it and is repeatedly dead on at 100 yds. I currently shoot magtech 400gr sjsp. only downfall is the price of ammo-i have some 535gr keith style ranger rick cast to load up but no time yet. The barrel is a factory 15" ported barrel. Started with the stock rubber grip and the trigger guard would smash my knuckle so I got the pachamyr this year and it is awesome. I always grew up in shotgun deer country so I treat it as such=100-150yds gun. Some say its good out to 200-225 yds but I have yet to shoot at that. Only one deer with so far and I gut shot and killed with quick follow up shot with 44mag revolver so dont know how well does on deer--definitely a shocker when you show off the bullets and people are like whoa--you dont hunt with that do you? Recoil not much more than the 308 just sorta different.

Ammohouse,

where did you get those beautiful grip and forearm?

Those are Georgia Jim grips and forends.
I love them and have them on all my setups.
I've got 2 sets that I'm going to trade/sell when I get back...or I could just but 2 more frames

Hope you make it home safely, thanks for your service and let me know when you decide to get rid of the two sets.

Yes, rifle scopes on the BEE and 223 barrels. The recoil is minimal and I can have full field of view without face/scope contact. The 243 barrel has a Burris 3~12 handgun scope with BP reticle.

My longest harvest with the PC is 175 yds. I'm trying to extend that distance to 250 yds but it has to be with a straight-wall bullit. That's why I'm looking at the Encores.

Here is my most recently aquired barrel-410/45lc. I cut down a rifle forend-it still needs some shaping on the end and only one rough coat finish as I want to get shooting squirrels with it. Also working on one in oak-but its my foirst attempt at a forend and the going is slow

I put about 8 rounds through her lastnite and shes a keeper. The first 2 rounds was to get a fill for the trigger and recoil. The trigger isnt that bad but I like a lite trigger so she will get a 2.5 to 3lb trigger . The recoil surprised me , I thought she was gonna buck and jump out of my hand but to be honest it's better than my S&W 629. I'd like to have a rifle forend put on it, I like the long forend look but Im might end up with the Packy set so I can put a sling on her . Im wanting a 15" SS 243 barrel for her and I havent made up my mind as far as the scope goes. It will either be a Busrris or Nikon. I have never used a Burris so I dont know much about them on the other hand I love my Nikon rifle scopes. I bought a TC base for it to get a feel for the scope but Im not sure if Ill stick with it or not.Ill be joining the 3 ring circus ( scope rings)to add a little bling while that buck feels the sting.

i like a 2lb trigger myself. nooooope.....a .243 doesn't recoil much at all in a handgun. a 7mm-08 isn't bad either with 120gr bullets, but as you go up in bullet weight(154gr)you do notice the difference.
if you go with a factory rifle forend, or with a custom wood forend they usually have or can have a sling stud for sling attachment. the pachmayr grip would be best for easy sling attach at the rear.
i like the burris scope really well, but some do have issues with their eye relief....i don't.
for the 3 rings....go with a weaver base and leupold rifleman vertical split. super mount up imo, and doesn't cost that much.

you can make you some bags to rest off of from old jean legs cut to length, filled with a lightweight filler of your choice, and tied off on each end. use 3....two stacked in front and one under the rear/grip/wrists. again, works well and doesn't cost a lot to get started wringing out some good groups at 100yrds.

Kentucky….no place like home.
