Im guessing it's not ideal-but my gun club has a fox hunte. we barely actually see any fox but its a last of the hunting season get together mostly. Its a shotgun only event-so i plan on using the 10" 410 barrel on my encore. I have 3" 6 shot-should that be good enough. Usually we just end up shooting squirrels and rabbits but ya never know. Plan to do some calling the night before with the 223 barrel.

I'd want larger than 6's myself. It's not like you need a super dense pattern for foxes. Might even consider small buckshot or BB depending on how far you plan to shoot. More energy per pellet would be more useful than more pellets, IMO.
Rod, too.
Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

I wouldn't shoot anything less than #4 shot.
It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger squeeze.

Correct. No smaller than #4 and would keep shots to 20 yards and less.

The red fox is a beautiful animal. Over the years I have had my chances to shoot one but let them walk. We are not over run with them and the locals shoot them when ever they see them, season or not. As a kid I liked to trap them as they are a real challenge.

I shot a fox in the back yard here years ago with a single barrel 20 Ga. modified choke loaded with a high brass 7 1/2, couldn't have been more than 10 yards or so, broadside. (I was a- waitin' for the mutt at dusk whilst sittin' at the picnic table nursing a Killians) The blast fluffed his ribcage and rolled him completely, but he immediately got up and raced across the meadow and out of sight. I suspect that he was wounded enough to have likely later expired, but I never did like the fact that he ran off to do so (I did go lookin', didn't find him). Don't like wounding anything I intend to kill DRT. I'm sure all others here share that sentiment. What I learned from that is that foxes are apparently a whole lot heartier than I had thought. Hell, I used to surmise that they're no bigger than a large housecat, and likely not any tougher. That close shotgun blast - even if it was only 7 1/2 shot, convinced me otherwise. The next fox that I shot out back got a 12 Ga. turkey load.
DRT!!!
(hey, they took one of "our" cats, I was on a death hunt in my back yard!).

I have only shot one fox .... I was bow hunting deer at the time. Have seen more since, but since the coyotes give them such a hard time I don't think I will jump on the wagon and gang up on them. Now I look for the coyotes ... ;-)
