A friend of mine has had one for near 25 years. Took his biggest buck with it I believe. It is really similar to the 338JDJ in performance. I have one of the loaded rounds on my desk....as a paper weight

RE: Quote from SSK Industries: "The 309, 8 mm, 338 #2, 358, 375 and 416 JDJ are based on the very strong 444 Marlin case..."

I see no reason to go with the VVC over the JDJ as I do not know who VVC is but am very familiar with the JDJ line of cartridges and their reputation.

To answer your question... no... All I can tell you is that Reeder tried a 375 in the 45-70 case and found that he couldn't take to the same velocity as the 375 JDJ. (The 45-70 case made the chamber walls too thin and he couldn't take it to the same pressure levels.) The 444 Case really optimizes the Contender plate forum. However, I have a funny fealing that really doesn't help you. LOL

Runngun, I completely understand your point of view. But just because you haven't heard of it doesn't meant it doesn't merit any thought.

In a Contender I would lean towards JDJ's rounds of the 444 case. In the Encore... I would look at Reeder's rounds of the 405 Win case. I really like the use and ease of a rimmed round in the Encore. JMHO though...

Gimme a .338 JDJ No. 2.
Out of curiosity, is it .338 WC or .338 V V C for the now defunct and re-named Virgin Valley?

I'm having a 416 Barnes Competitor built. The 416 Barnes is a 45/70 case necked down to 416. Ballistically it has greater velocity and more terminal energy than the 416 JDJ, which is based on the 444 marlin case. Go figure!

Interesting... I bet you could use 338 JDJ data and work you way up.

From what I can tell the 338VVC shoots a 200 gr. bullet 223 fps faster than the 338 JDJ.(Average 338 JDJ load).

Barrel length will account for some of the difference in velocity.14 inch 338JDJ vs 16 inch 338 VVC.

It should be more than 60-100 fps deference... shouldn't be...
