Okay so here's the situation, you decide to complete a Super Slam and go after it with a handgun only. For the event you can choose the handgun of your choice, and caliber of your choice. But you are only allowed one, what would you decide on?
I think for me it would be one of those Lipsley special run bisley blackhawk hunters in 45 colt.It would allow for with and without optic opportunities, and loaded properly should be able to adaquately take all the species necessary for the slam.

No hesitation... A Grand Slam with a 16.5in SS TC Custom Shop in 270 Win. A 130gr projectile at 2850.

Good thought provoking question. Unfortunately, the stone sheep can only be hunted in Canada where handguns are forbidden. So, you may be able to take the other three species with a handgun but you will have to use a rifle for the stone.

Mark, Stone Sheep are now showing up in Eastern Alaska (Northway area, etc) & there is talk of allowing hunting them!
Well to answer the question, the wise choice would be one of the SPs in a heavy 338 or 35 caliber so you can "reach out & touch them", but also bust some bone on the big critters.
Problem is I just don't enjoy hunting with the SPs, so for me it would be a revolver, & I prefer the DAs. I would love to do it with one of the S&W PC mod 29s in some variation, but would feel a little undergunned on the brown bear hunt (Not that it couldn't be done), so my choice would probably be my SRH in 480, or possible a custom SRH in 475. Most likely I'd stick with the 480.
I'm finding my self in a bit of a problem lately. Now that I have my Guide Gun in 450 Marlin all customized the way I want, & have my SRH in 480, I really have all the big game hunting guns I NEED. The wants can be kind of hard to justify...

Thanks Gary, Karen & I go to the Grand Slam/OVIS Convention Feb. 17-20 in Vegas. Nice show. Hope you are doing well.
I'll try and stay on the original topic: While I don't have extensive sheep hunting experience, I have been blessed to take the grand slam. The shots taken were 190, 230, 242, and 277 yards. Considering the distance that most sheep are encountered, I would obviously choose a specialty pistol capable of handling long range opportunities for medium-sized game. The XP, Encore, and MOA would be my preference, chambered in cartridges such as 6.5 WSM, 284 Win., and 308 Win.
Granted, there are several bowhunters who have completed the grand slam. This would indicate that revolvers would obviously work well if you were inclined.
Whatever handgun you choose, sheep hunting offers a true mountain hunting experience that will never be forgotten. A handgun hunters dream for sure.

One gun one caliber. Then the 460 Xframe smith would be my pick. You never said one cartridge and in that strait chamber i could run 45 454 or 460 as I saw fit or as ammo became available on a far away hunt. Also I like the idea of having the D\A revolvers for anything that likes to bite

Choosing from my current selection and without investing in another gun/caliber, I would use my T/C Encore in 30-06 JDJ with a 165 grain Nosler Partition Bullet; second choice would be the 165 grain Nosler Accubond.
If push came to shove (ie. my second gun taken along as a back-up in case of gun or scope failure) would be my T/C Contender in .375 JDJ with the 270 Grain Hornady Spire Point.
For the unknown "nasties" would be my 4 3/4" FA .500 Wyoming Express loaded with 440 Cast in a weak side cross draw leather holster.
