I have a .375 and a 6.5 and both are serious deer whackers. Do I want to get a .309 JDJ and if so, why? What will it do that my other 2 barrels won't? No particular reason, but I am kinda in the mood for another Contender barrel and the JDJ calibers are great.

From a purely practical standpoint, you have all the firepower you will ever need to hunt any game animal on earth.

But how many of us are "purely practical? I say get the .309!

It will give you a bit more performance than the 6.5. I agree, get the .309.

I have a .375 JDJ and a 6.5 JDJ and had a .309 JDJ...loved it but sold the .309 and got a 30-06 JDJ Encore. How (im)practical is that??

Well, i think that y'all have convinced me. I shot my 1st handgunned deer (a doe) about 5 years ago. I used my new G2 and SK .375JDJ barrel. I didn't handload but Hornady was making the ammo. My son was 13 at the time and looked at me like I was a bit nuts when I pulled out my TC. He commented that it didn't look like any of the guns in the safe, ivory grips wouldn't do a thing for it, and it was just "plain funny looking". I popped that doe about 90 yards away in a food plot. She dropped immediately. He looked at me and said "I guess I know what it is good for now." He shot his first buck, a good looking 8 pointer 30 minutes later. 110 yards, Remington Model 7 in 7-08, 1 shot. That whole experience has sold me on handgun hunting forever. I couldn't have asked for a better morning. I have shot 4 more with that .375 and 2 this past season with my 6.5: 1 120 lb doe at 115 yards and an 8 point 210 lb buck at 125 yards. I am seriously ate up with this TC Contenderitis. I hope that no cure is ever found.

Thankfully, there is no known cure for your disease...but getting a .309JDJ will make you feel better about it.

Well, I had the same problem a few years back. I had the 375JDJ and with 225 spire points I thought I had found "THE ONE". Next I found a 6.5 JDJ and then I had the smaller calibers covered. Whoops, then I ran on to a 338 JDJ, well that's in between. I kept hearing voices, get it. I did. With 180grn Ballistic Tips, I had a big bore, longer range than the 375 JDJ and with the muzzle break, it was too kool. Well about a year later, up surfaces a 309 JDJ. I had hundreds of 444 brass, hundreds of 308 caliber bullets. Why not, got the 309JDJ and whow, it was a canon with Varget, 150grn Ballistic tips and a 3x9 burris.
I took a doe at 256 yds that fall while hunting next to the land owner over some winter wheat. After the shoot, he had that deer in the head light look. I was hooked again.
Practical, I don't know. I have covered the range for all game.
Got it because I wanted it, yes, and have never looked back.
I even had SSK make me a Shilen barrel in 45-70 with arrestor break and SSK Krome finish.

as stated above i think you are covered as far as firepower, but the 309 is a outstanding cal. i bought 1 a year ago and i will say that it is very accuarate havent shot anything with it yet i have it loaded with 165 balistic tips now that should be a deer hammer for sure Ron

I have a 6.5, 309, and a 375. I pick the 309 most of the time I just feel good about it. A 165-grain Ballistic Tip @ 2400fps gives a lot of confidence in the field.
