I've heard of guys building them up with JB Weld. You don't need a whole lot usually. Just scratch the surface of the top of the sight with emery, take a couple pieces of flat something and hold on each side of the blade as a mold. With a flat toothpick scoop up the epoxy mix and layer on top of the blade between your "molds". When dry shape with a file and paint with Birchwood Casey touch up pen.
Nice one Dan ;-)
Rod, too.

Will that weld hold up in the cold and under recoil?

If done properly it should hold fine. You don't normally have to add more than 1/16" to 1/8" depending on sight radius. The main thing is to prep the top of the blade properly to allow adhesion. I've never done this personally, never needed to, but it does work. Better than Tennessee elevation.

If your up to it, I added a front sight to my SBH. If you like the idea, a custom shop can do it for you. My local smith would have charged me 50.00 to mill the block. Reeder would cost 100.00 but the front sight would be included. PS, if you do it yourself, add .10 to you front sight when you buy it. I had to order another one because I didn't know I needed to figure that into the sights OAL. Fortunately the front sights are only 10.00. I filed and sanded the blade off. Then I dovetailed the block to accept my front blade.

Wondering if there is a way to attach a fiber optic sight to my existing blade, for better dusk visibility. A fiber optic dot on top of my blade would give the proper height for the heavy loads as well. I like what you have done with yours TCMan, but I have the Vaquero, so not an option.(blade only)

I would give a custom shop a call. Reeder would have taken the whole block off and put anotherone one that would accept different blades. When you get tired of one you can put another one on their.

Was it Dan that drilled and tapped a shotgun bead into the top of something. That might an option. There are lots of fiber optic shotgun beads out there. I think mine are #4 hole and that would be do-able in a 1/8" thick sight blade.

I like what you have done with yours TCMan, but I have the Vaquero, so not an option.(blade only) I saw where a guy bought a piece of fiber optic rod from Brownells and then built up the blade with JB Weld and then he filed a groove into the top of it and embedded the fiber optic rod into it with epoxy. Then he painted it all to match the rest of the revolver. It came out nice. If I can find the article I will put a link here.

I'd be sure to carry a spare piece of optic and some super glue just in case. Nice presentation, I may just try that.
